In my voting life, going back to 1968, there are only three Republicans I had bad vibes about and refused to vote for them. Nixon, Trump, and (in the primaries) Cruz. If Cruz is the 2024 nominee, I'll go third party again. Same if Trump runs again.

How & why did you get a bad vibe about Trump?
Would you rather have Kamala & Biden ?

I would NEVER vote for a flaming liberal. As for Trump, I'm old school. I like "Honest Abe" type leaders. Reaganesque. Trump has had multiple bankruptcies and has lied and belittled people he disagrees with. He's a poor delegator--and if someone wants to be a good leader, they must learn to choose reliable people and let them do their job. Trump picked people for jobs and then when they made decisions he disagreed with, he fired them and bad-mouthed them. HIRE GOOD PEOPLE AND LET THEM DO THEIR JOB!!!

I like presidents I could recommend to my grandsons as role models. I do NOT want my grandsons to become like Trump.

Do you really think there will be one?

John Thune or Ben Sasse? Alas, some folks are quick to label anyone (like Thune, Sasse, and me) who doesn't like Trump as a RINO. Far from it. I'm more conservative, politically, than most of my friends. But I won't support a dishonest, badmouthing, blowhard for whom humility is a foreign word. Frankly, I think we're entering into a time of national judgement--no, wait--we HAVE already entered into a time of national judgment and part of the deception in the church is the misplaced support for guys like Trump. He will NOT lead us into national repentance. He's part of the judgment, in my opinion.

    Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Nothing's going to be perfect. We have a 2 party system and that's going to be our reality. We just have to weigh out what is worst, Orange man's mean tweet's with some immoral behavior in his past, or Marxism, communism and maybe China taking over.

What about revival as a third option? We don't have to have Orange man or Marxism. That smells like fear. The problem is that we Christians objected loudly to Clinton's lack of morals. Character was a big issue with us THEN. What happened to the moral issue when Trump came on the scene? It went out the window like a bird escaping from its cage...and along with it our credibility, replaced in 2016 by our hypocrisy. We can never again raise the issue of character, integrity, morality.

Christians around Trump should be calling him to repentance, not patting him on the back. How much is his soul worth? Are we willing that he should spend eternity in hell as long as he plays the piper's tune for us?

There are a lot of rough talkers in heaven. Martin Luther had a potty mouth (you can google).

Trump calling things and people out is in demand, the people want some common sense, I do think he should dial down some of his name-calling and petty remarks but stand behind his agenda as did many of Luthers supporters.

To the extent that Luther attacked other human beings in vitriol, I don't condone him. But those of us in the Protestant tradition all acknowledge that God used a flawed yet passionate person at that moment in history.
Martin Luther's Potty Mouth | Jackass Theology

    >>God used a flawed yet passionate person

As He always does, we are all flawed.

Imagine your attitude in the days of Luther. "Oh my .. Luther has a potty mouth therefore I reject him".

What you would have missed ...

Luther's main ideal 1. Salvation by faith alone.
Luther's main ideal 2. The bible is the only authority.
Luther's main ideal 3. The priesthood of all believers.
Salvation by faith alone. Faith in god was the only way of salvation.
The bible is the only authority. ...
    The priesthood of all believers.

    and a bit more.

There are moments in time where being Ward Cleaver isn't going to cut it.

Trump is not a role model for your grandchildren any more than I am, you can be one, their fathers can be role models, etc but even if they appear perfect wouldn't it be a much more wonderful and truthful message to them that in spite of our flaws, God still loves us and can use us. I really think you are stuck on some pet peeve or as BAP has theorized, maybe you are just a leftist.

It's not just his potty mouth. It's his character.

By giving Trump a pass on repentance because of his political positions, we're saying his soul takes second place to our preference for a political messiah. He ain't it.

The American church is weak. One proof is that so many Christians will vote for a man they KNOW is corrupt to be our president. It' something I never thought I'd see.

maybe you are just a leftist.
That's the go-to accusation when all else fails. Utter nonsense. If I were a leftist I wouldn't have voted for Reagan, Bush, or voted in the 2016 Republican primaries. I wouldn't support pro-life causes and crisis pregnancy centers. I wouldn't be against gay marriage. I wouldn't be for school choice--and much, much more. Sometimes I think I'm to the right of Pat Buchanan. Here's a prediction: more stuff about Trump will come out in the future that SHOULD cause Christians who still support him to finally wake up. We'll see.
