Anderson Cooper hosts Jeopardy: lowest guest host ratings in shows history

CNN host Anderson Cooper's first week as the "Jeopardy!" guest host pulled in lower ratings than any other guest host in the history of the show.

Ratings reportedly fell by 7% during Anderson's first week, claiming the lowest debut for any of the Sony game show's guest hosts, according to The Wrap.

The iconic game show lost its longtime emcee, Alex Trebek, in November after he died following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old at the time. Until a permanent host is announced by Sony Pictures Television, interim hosts have been stepping in.

The Wrap reported that Cooper's 5.1 rating dropped "Jeopardy!" out of the top game show spot that week, falling behind "Family Feud," which pulled in a 5.5 rating.

Cooper's score was just below Dr. Oz's 5.2 rating during his own debut week, which had previously been considered the lowest score for a "Jeopardy!" guest host. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers began with a 5.6, but drew a 5.5 rating his second week.

To date, the highest-rated guest host was Ken Jennings, who managed to land a 6.2 rating in his first week. Jennings was the first guest host to step in for Trebek after he passed.

Katie Couric took the stage shortly after that, but the show fell behind "Family Feud" and finished second for the first time since Trebek's final episodes. The two weeks with "Dr. Oz" did not collect the ratings necessary to help the show recover from second place.

"60 Minutes" correspondent Bill Whitaker, former contestant Buzzy Cohen, Mayim Bialik, "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Fox sportscaster Joe Buck, George Stephanopoulos, and LeVar Burton are all slated to emcee the show in the coming weeks.

As a part of each guest host's appearance, a donation will be made to a charity of their choice. The amount donated will equal the cumulative winnings of the contestants that compete during the week they serve as guest host.

He was only okay. I liked Aaron Rodgers. Katie was also just okay. No real standouts yet, though.

    I'm a HUGE Jeopardy fan...

I could only watch one episode when Anderson Cooper hosted - Ugh!

I tuned in to find that Katie Couric was hosting, and immediately turned the channel - Double Ugh!

Bill Whitaker was hosting this week, and it was painful to watch - Could only get thru one episode - Eeek!

I'll probably tune in to see how Joe Buck does - He's a cool Sportscaster, so he might be okay.

You couldn't pay me to watch the others (listed above)

I thought Aaron Rodgers did a very good job - I could live with him as permanent host - He said he'd LOVE to do it, by the way.

I'm now waiting to see how Levar Burton does - I hear it's his "Dream Job" too, and I think he'd do a good job, but we shall see.

LeVar Burton will completely out-do the others. Rodgers still has football and millions of dollars to think about.

I have watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune for years and years but I did not watch it with Katie Couric because of the statement she made about Trump voters. I did not watch Anderson because of his lifestyle. I thought Ken Jennings did pretty good and also the executive producer of Jeopardy did very great. I don't particularly care for this one but I have watched him. I just wish they would choose a host and not have all these guest hosts. They have had 5 months or so to find a replacement for Alex. He was tops and I really miss him.

I agree! - I think they should have narrowed it down to their Top 5 Candidates, and let each of them host for only a week or two.

I wonder if their viewership has dropped off significantly, since they've been rotating "Guest Hosts" for so long?

After a while, interest in the show will suffer, if they don't go ahead and name a new Host, IMHO.

We need a host who conveys the same enthusiasm for the game that Mr. Trebek showed. So far, in my mind, nobody really cuts it.

I wonder if Tony Romo (former NFL quarterback and now broadcaster) would be interested? I think he does a great job on the NFL games he covers.
