In my mind it says that they PD needs to spend more time training. It should be natural to know where the tools of the trade are located at on your belt. It should become a reflex to grab the tazer from one side of your belt and your weapon from the other side. This was a sad mistake on the part of the officer, but ultimately speaks to the need of much more hands on training for their officers.

Just what I was about to say. Don't give them a reason to mistake their gun for a taser. And the guy was a criminal to boot. This incident had nothing to do with him being black.

There is a principle in law called "contributory negligence", in other words if you contributed to your own loss you are partially responsible, how is Daunte not accountable aside from the fact that he is dead. The cop is not 100% responsible for this, in fact had Daunte obeyed the law and simply submitted to arrest he would be out driving around today, the cop didn't just wake up in the morning and decide to kill him. He is just as culpable in the "accident".

I'm not a fan of over zealous police or the police state in general but this stuff has to stop. You resist, you get met with force, that is on you.

I totally agree with you, Brother - You know I'm the first one to yell "COMPLY!"

However, I'm sure you and the rest of my Peeps here can understand why a lot of POC are getting weary of waking up to news of yet another POC being shot behind a "simple traffic stop"

I know all too well the stats on "Black-on-Black" crime, so please don't cite them for me - But is it "police policy" that if a perp talks smack, runs, or resists, the officer is allowed to exercise "deadly force" and shoot him or her?

EDITED TO ADD: And for people to almost justify it by saying "Well, the guy WAS a criminal" adds insult to injury.

God forbid your son or brother (who may have a record) gets shot and killed by a police officer.

What I pointed out was shared responsibility. Has anyone in black leadership pointed that out? Are young black criminals served by the message that it's all the cops fault, is anyone served by that message?
