Graham Says He Plans to Meet With Trump to Discuss GOP's Future

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is planning a confab with former President Donald Trump to discuss the Republican Party's future.

Graham told reporters in Washington on Friday that he wants Trump to work with the GOP in its bid to flip the House of Representatives and Senate in the 2022 midterm elections.

"I'm going to try and convince him that we can't get there without you, but you can't keep the Trump movement going without the GOP united," Graham said. "If we come back in 2022, then it's an affirmation of your policies. But if we lose again in 2022, then it's going to be—the narrative is going to continue that not only you lost The White House, but the Republican Party is in a bad spot."

"Trump's got to work with everybody," Graham added. "You got to put your best team on the field. If it's about revenge and going after people you don't like, we're going to have a problem. If this is about putting your best team on the field, we've got a decent chance at coming back."

Graham was leaving the U.S. Capitol after another day of an impeachment trial against Trump.

Trump has remained out of sight since leaving office on Jan. 20, releasing few statements and primarily communicating through intermediaries.

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Trump's 2020 campaign, said last month that Trump will "make sure" Republicans win the House in 2022.

"He's got a ton of money. He's the biggest name. He's going to get that done," he said while on Steve Bannon's "War Room."

But Trump and some of his supporters are disenchanted with a slew of Republicans who are up for reelection that year, believing they didn't stand by him during the turmoil that unfolded after the presidential election.

Trump called on South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to primary Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), a member of the Republican Senate leadership, and Trump allies in Congress are backing challenges to Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the House GOP chair, after she sided with Democrats to impeach him.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has publicly supported Cheney amid calls for her resignation from the leadership team but also convened recently with Trump in Florida. Trump's team called the meeting "good and cordial," and said topics included how Republicans will win back the lower chamber in 2022.

"Trump's popularity has never been stronger than it is today," the team said, "and his endorsement means more than perhaps any endorsement at any time."

Graham is concerned that Trump will form a 3rd party, this is obvious. The meeting at such an early juncture shows the urgency and level of concern. Interesting.

Only problem with a 3rd party is it would split the conservative vote. If a 3rd party is formed it would need to be a liberal.

That's how Clinton got into office. But then, Trump is no Ross Perot. Not even close. It's the politicians of the Republican party that weaken the party, not the general voting community. McConnell is over a barrel and under heavy pressure. Trump has him right where he wants him.

Republicans ... the one party that continually shoots its own. Now Graham wants unity? Where was unity on January 6th?

Was there ever a more indecisive whiny monkey wrench for president than Ross Perot? He was running then he wasn't running, back-and-forth. He basically screwed up the whole election. He might have come close to getting elected if he showed a little decisiveness and backbone about the whole thing.

It's almost like he was put there to do just that.

Well, Trump ain't dumb. He knows a third party won't get the win. Anybody with common sense knows that. The things Trump stood for and the eyes he opened are what he did in the GOP. There are folks in Congress and the Senate that got that same fire. Folks got to rally around them people to keep that movement going. Seat's in both House's need Conservative GOP leaders in them. The GOP should be making them impressions first & foremost.

I think Jim Jordan out of Ohio, might make a try for it. But Trump needs to close the current and give favor to candidates he thinks can keep that Trump Train movement in action (Make it publicly known.) South Dakota, Florida & Texas Governors need to keep that movement in their States going and keep the Media reporting on what they are doing. Ted Cruz has got some grease in the frying pan as well. Trump endorsing him might be another thing though.

Tulsi Gabbard needs to switch parties. Her JFK style fantasia in the DNC is to far gone. She has some Trump qualities and she backs up everything she does or says with facts. She needs a bit more schooling in dropping the left side ideas that don't follow Biblical truths. She needs prayers in that area too, don't think she is born again. First commandment problems there. She needs to be back in Congress if nothing else.

Fuego, I voted for Ross, and you are very correct on his caliber. I had just got laid off from work the week before the election, so Bush lost a vote. Right after the winner was announced in the election they called me back to work, 12 hr. days for 5 days then 5 on Saturday. That is a witness to what fake news can do. The tables turn that fast,, not likely.

The RINOs exposed themselves, now we need to weed them out of the party and replace them with actual Republicans.
