A New Testament Commentary: Romans—by Bob Yandian

I’ve been reading along with Pastor Yandian for several months now his commentaries on the New Testament books...We began with the book of Acts, and we’re now in Romans.

His commentary on Acts (the first book) is my favorite, but Romans is running a close second.

After Acts, we’ve read through Galatians, Ephesians, and Colossians. The commentaries are well done and easy to follow & understand. He really digs in and breaks each verse down, which I appreciate because Romans is one of those epistles, like James, that I need more revelation, and I’m understanding much better, it’s truly been a blessing.

I’ll be reading the commentaries on Acts again, and Romans as well in the future.

Before we start each, he does a videotaped preview. It’s a great way to familiarize ourselves on a little history before delving into our reading. We read a chapter a week, and after we finish, we take a short break before going to the next book.

It’s been good for me because I need to stay out of this unbearable Oklahoma heat. So curling up with some great Commentaries on the epistles within the pages of my favorite book in the whole world is the ticket .

He was one of my instructors at Rhema in '79. Great expository teacher.

Y'all had the best instructors, Yandian, Keith Moore, Cooper Beatty, and of course Brother Hagin. I'm a little jealous!

But now that Dr. Ken Stewart is my pastor, it's all good.

Moore wasn't there yet. It was Yandian, Copper Beatty (some of the students called him Copper Beauty ) Rodney Loyd, Geoff Jackson, Randy Gearheart, Sam Whaley (who many said his church in NC has turned into a cult). Can't remember the others. Ken Stewart also. He was actually the dean of Rhema at the time. Every one of those teachers including Yandian, (I think Ken Stewart was still dean though) left after that year. Supposedly there was some kind of controversy between them and Hagin. They believed the spirit of man was already perfect, and Hagin taught that it grew. Or something like that. But they did inject a little of their teaching that year.

A story about Ken Stewart. Wasn't too long after I was saved, could have been a year or two, or shorter, I went to a meeting with him, small church. I didn't have any money and he gave me his Gifts of the Holy Spirit set for free.

Just more of my Rhema trivia:

One of Pat Boone's daughters was in one of my classes. Not Debbie, I think it was Laura?

When we first came in, for orientation they showed on video on a big screen on the platform in the auditorium, they showed Fred Price's "Faith, Foolishness, or Presumption" videos from when he taught it there a year or two before during a conference. They were trying to get the 'flake' out of everybody before school started.

Copeland came live that year and taught several nights. Also live were Norvel Hayes, Lester Sumrall, Roy Hicks (here is a link to his book pdf he had out at the time, "Instrument Rated Christians" http://timothytanministries.yolasite...-Roy-Hicks.pdf). Can't remember a few others.

During chapel, we had Janny Grimes come and sing. She sang "Missionary Song" and the place went wild. Spirit of God just fell. Might be my favorite song by her (awesome words). Another great song by her is "Praise Him" (great words too). She also wrote "Cast Your Bread Upon The Water" that Copeland sang. She's gone on to be with the Lord now. These songs still get me.

Had TL Osborn for a chapel. He preached and I remember thinking at the time, "This must have been what Paul was like".

Oral Roberts came for a chapel. I remember how imposing he was, just a tall guy. It made him seem larger than life.

John G Lake's daughter and son in law, Wilford Reidt came for a chapel and sit in chairs and talked about Lake. They've both gone home to be with the Lord now. Reidt's writings so inspired Brother Hagin he actually went back and reedited his book "The Lost Art of Intercession" and put a bunch of quotes from Reidt's writings on intercession in the book. One of my favorite books on healing is by him, "Jesus, God's way of healing and power to promote health: Featuring the miracle ministry of Dr. John G. Lake". Great book if you can find it. Wilford Reidt actually turned John G Lake's ministry so to speak over to Curry Blake. His ministry is called JGLM or John G Lake ministries. This came about through prophecies and things spoken to Reidt. Curry is a great teacher.

In Brother Hagin's 'Healing' class (I know he had a 'Faith Libray' where he taught on faith, so it might have been a part of that class) I think it was called, he used FF Bosworth's book "Christ the Healer" for a textbook. He said he couldn't improve on what Bosworth wrote so he read chapters 2, 3 and 4, "Did Jesus Redeem Us From Our Diseases When He Atoned For Our Sins?", "Is Healing For All?", and "The Lord's Compassion" in their entirety. Word for Word, and commented on it. For some reason in a newer edition of the book they changed the name of some of the chapters. I'll attach the original copy pdf at the end of this post.

That's all I can remember for now. If I recall any more I'll post them here. :)

Here are those two songs by Janny.
