    The Permissive Sense
Hints and Helps to Bible Interpretation that Vindicates God's Character of Love

One does not have to read too far into the Bible to find that it says the following about Him:
    • God hardened people's hearts.
    • God put lying spirits in the mouth of false prophets.
    • God personally deceived prophets.
    • God Blinded people to the truth.
    • God inflicted sickness.
    • God sent natural disasters.
    • God moved people to sin.
    • God tempted men.
    • God intentionally gave men unrighteous laws.
    • God created evil.
    • And even more....
    *
Such statements have presented insurmountable difficulties to Bible readers. Failure to understand them properly have led to doctrines that paint God in less than a favorable light. However, when we understand the permissive sense, most difficulties with such verses will disappear. This book will help you understand this important principle and will remove all doubt about God's love, goodness, and holiness.

That sounds like someone who has embraced the hyper-grace teaching. People who think that God's grace gives license to sin do not realize that it is sin itself destroys us. God is too loving to give us a license to do those things that destroy us.

Yep...the true version of hyper grace...she is young so I would not so much say she embraced it...not sure she ever heard anything different....I planted a seed today encouraging her to listen for the Holy Spirit God gave to lead us into truth.....sorry, did not mean to hijack..just point out the flip side of extreme...

I have no problem with hijacking. Actually, hijacking draws people to the thread and helps promote what I really created the thread for. Hijack on.

Also, good points. Sadly this is a common thing among young people, even among some of the people that I pastor. I continue to be straightforward with the truth and many of them continue to come (some have left though). Some of them want to wait until they can save enough for a big wedding. I keep telling them that we can marry them in a small ceremony and they can do the big thing later. But nah, they want to wait.

I am always careful to separate my message about the loving character of God from the wicked idea that it is okay to sin and especially live in it. The message I preach is that sin will destroy you when continue to push God away by living in it.

In the passages about Pharaoh the words translated "hardened" are not all the same. One could be better translated, "make proud" and another might better be, "made strong." The implication is that Pharaoh was proud and stubborn. I don't think that makes much of a difference in our understanding but I found it interesting.
