County Judge George Briggs had an unusual incident in his courtroom. A man and woman, showing a marriage certificate from a minister, asked the judge to marry them, together again. The groom didn't believe the minister had the authority to perform a legal marriage and that's why they needed a judge. Judge Briggs re-married them, but first checked the man's identity to make certain he wasn't marrying a second wife.

"The Shorthorns" is a basketball team made up of Ag students at the Agricultural College in Fort Collins. Last night, their team lost to Greeley High School, 82-8.

Grape growers across the country are praising the prohibition of alcohol in America. They say they can't make wine anymore, but they've encouraged people to make their own wine at home, thus increasing the price and sale of grapes.

Attendance at the State Teachers College here is growing so quickly that they have now petitioned the city to build seven new dormitories on campus. Construction should begin soon.

Max, 13, and Merle Ogle, 11, of Greeley had a 28,000 square-foot garden this summer and made more than $3,000 selling their crops. It shows what enterprising and hard-working youngsters can do.

Thirty years after he invented the game of basketball, Dr. James Naismith was awarded an honor by the University of Kansas this week — life membership on the Basketball Rules Committee.

Don't throw away used clothing in Greeley. Children's clothing and shoes are badly needed by the poor people of the city. Telephone Greeley 989 and the Salvation Army will come to pick up the clothing.

A registered Holstein Cow named "Favorite," won the state butterfat producing title. The average butterfat production by a cow is 56.1 pounds per month. "Favorite," a Johnstown cow, produced 102.2 pounds last month.

    — 100 Years Ago is taken from the original pages of the Greeley Tribune, the Weld County Republican, and when they merged, the Greeley Tribune-Republican.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...

Back in the days when you didn't depend on the grocery store and had more than 3 day supply of food in the house.

I find them pretty interesting, and 100 years wasn't actually all that long ago, just past the midpoint of our country's history and it kind of gives a certain perspective to some things.

Also Colorado is the "Centennial State" because we joined in 1876.

I just realized that in 2026, not to many years from now, it will be the 250th anniversary of America as a nation - as least as things stand now.
