They don't save anyone, Jesus does. Man can say nice things that changes a man's mind, but to be saved Jesus has to change the heart.

There was a preacher 150 years or so ago who did things like most churches do now. He said "The success of any measure designed to promote a revival of religion, demonstrates its wisdom". His preaching seemed, at the time, to produce fantastic results, but a co-worker later wrote "What was the state after we left? . . . (it was a) sad, frigid, carnal, contentious state into which the churches had fallen . . . very soon after our first departure from among them".

Towards the end of his life this preacher wrote "I was often instrumental in bringing Christians under great conviction, and into a state of temporary repentance and faith . . . [But] falling short of urging them up to a point, where they would become so acquainted with Christ as to abide in Him, they would of course soon relapse into their former state".

Paul writing to Timothy says that "All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness". Acts, which is Scripture, tells us how the Apostles preached to the unsaved. This is what the Apostles did; this is what Paul did; this is what Scripture tells us; so on what grounds can we say that it should be done another way?

That's not how I approach it, but at the same time those people that heard them will never be able to claim to Jesus that they never heard about the wrath of God against sin and all unrighteousness. Also, the wrath and judgment of God handled skillfully can have a great affect on conviction.

While people cannot be threatened into heaven, the fact remains that Jesus commanded us that REPENTANCE AND REMISSION OF SINS be preached to every nation.

To truly appreciate remission of sins one must understand the consequence of their sins so that they will repent from their sins.
Without sin there is no need for repentance.
Without understanding that the consequences of sin is death (of the eternal sort) many have no desire to repent of their sins.
If a person is going to put their faith in Jesus to save them, they should understand WHY He needs to save them and WHAT He is saving them from.
Jesus came to save them from the wrath of God. A wrath that they deserve because they have sinned and fallen short of His glory.

"God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life" is a biblical truth. But it is only a small part of the gospel message. By itself, it means nothing.

But God shows His love in this; that while we were yet sinners (His enemies because of our sin) Christ died for us.

Bingo. Although I think it would be more accurate to say, "God loves you..." and stop there. The plan may not be so wonderful, i.e. most of the disciples, if looked at through worldly eyes and worldly standard which they will be when you say that to them.

    Acts 9
16 For I will shew him (Paul) how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

Every Christian needs to read 'Hell's Best Kept Secret' by Ray Comfort and see sharing the gospel from that perspective. Even if you were won by the love of God, chances are you knew enough about all the other before that happened so that when love was finally displayed it melted your heart.
