The influence of one's political slant on how one perceives God and prophecies

Something that's been on my heart/mind:

Most people are subject to personal political bias, and Christians are no exception, including charismatics, Pentacostals, etc. What this has to do with prophecy or beliefs is - very often, we see Christians who pass spiritual things through a Republican/conservative filter.

For instance - always prophesying that God will make something conservative or Republican happen, but not vice versa. Always delivering good-sounding things to the ears, but not bad news. Prophesying that God will make America great, or prosper, but not anything bad.

We need to look at Scripture to see examples of how God often called His prophets to prophesy things that Israel or Judah didn't want to hear - things that went contrary to their desires. Nobody would have enjoyed the thought of Jerusalem being conquered and Israel being taken into exile in Babylon, but that's what happened. Prophets in the Bible frequently foretold famine - news that nobody would have liked to hear. Nathan told David his son would die because of his sin with Bathsheba.

But in modern America, we have this tendency to pass spiritual things through a Republican filter and only "approve" things that pass our "do I like it?" test.

There aren't that many "feel good" prophecies in the Bible.

Perhaps it's just that no Democrat has ever been saved so there's no one of that flavour for God to use in prophesy???

But more likely, based on Church history and the current state of much of the Church it's this, 2Tim 4:3 "For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires".

There were quite a few either/or ones though. God never prophesied, for instance, pending captivity without warnings of the alternative.

I hear those warnings in the prophetic a lot. For instance I hear them in our current political climate globally. The divide is real and the warning is clear. I, nor does anyone I know, view the current election challenge as a feel good situation. We see it as a manifestation of light and dark, God's kingdom vs Satan's kingdom. And those in my circle will see a win only as a temporary reprieve from the inevitable Biblical end.

No need to go past "we are redefining what it means to be" to realise there's not going to be much that can be defended with Scripture.
