    Prophetic ministry

    Jefferson K. Thompson-FACEBOOK POST

Some prophetic words should be "confirmed" before they are acted upon. Others do not require "confirmation" before instantly obeying them. Learn to tell the difference.
For example, a word such as I received from the Lord years ago while ministering at a church in the Toronto area, did not require "confirmation." The word God gave me to deliver was, "Have the congregation march around the building!" That word did not require any major life change on anybody's part in order to obey, so we simply obeyed instantly. I was told later by some of the church leadership that God had typically brought the church a word to march around the building before a major transition. This "march," unknown to me, signaled them that change was coming.
However a prophetic word such as that one should move to another city, go to the mission field, or step out into some areas of ministry, DOES require on some level a major life change. These types of words should be submitted to mature spiritual authority, who can help us put these words into the context of our lives in the right way and in the right timing. We should pray over words such as this, positioning ourselves spiritually for the Lord to speak needed confirmation into our hearts. Voices of confirmation might also come through dreams, visions, or other prophetic ministries. And stay alert for confirming similitudes as well. But do NOT make a major life change based ONLY upon a prophetic word or a dream. Let God confirm major life changes through at least two or three additional channels, as well as witnessing to your own heart by the Holy Ghost. Be Blessed!

Over several years, many years ago, a seasoned prophet, Rev. Howard Varnado, gave me three separate words from the Lord, two of which I did not "like," and one which I did not understand. Although I was polite at the moment, I was certain that Bro. Howard had "missed it."
First, Bro. Howard prophesied to me regarding writing a book. Over four decades, several prophets have addressed an aspect of "writing" ministry upon my life. But the word that came through Bro. Howard in the late 1970's (if memory serves) specifically addressed the TOPIC that the book would concern. At the time, I did not "like" that topic, and I really did not "receive" the word in my heart as I should have. However, later, when my very first book came into print, the Lord brought back to my recollection that Bro. Howard had prophesied that book some time before, and had correctly identified the TOPIC!
Second, Bro. Howard prophesied over Linda and me that in our next church assignment (which turned out to be in South Louisiana) we would confront a "treteur" spirit. I thought Bro. Howard had said a "traitor" spirit, and thought, "Well, I have faced THAT one before for sure!" However, Bro. Howard's pronunciation seemed a bit "off" to my English speaking ears. I realized once we got to South Louisiana, that Bro. Howard's pronunciation had been accurate, and that the word he gave us was true. We did indeed confront a "treteur" spirit (an occult spirit) in the lives of some of the people we ministered to.
Third, Bro. Howard ministered to me MANY years ago that I would begin to teach not only topically but "verse by verse" (exegetically). At the time I was a "topical" preacher, primarily focusing on teaching principles of healing and faith (which I still do of course). I did not "like" verse-by-verse teaching, and felt it was boring (it certainly doesn't have to be). However, one day just a few years ago, the Lord brought to my remembrance what Bro. Howard had said by the Spirit. Honestly, today, I LOVE teaching verse-by-verse, and minister that way as much or more than any other way.
These are only a few examples of others I could (and may) relate as other prophets as well have ministered to me some word that I did not at the moment "like," or understand, but which proved to be accurate nonetheless. Do not reject a prophetic word just because it does not "fit" your preconceptions, or pander to your own human ambition or agenda. Pray over the words you receive. Submit them to spiritual authority. Watch for any needed confirming witnesses. And fulfill the Kingdom Purpose God has for you! Be Blessed!

A question, as I have a questioning mind.

Does Jefferson K. Thompson provide any Scriptural support for those views?

If he quoted the whole Bible to you you would twist it somehow to fit your Calvinistic bias.

I'll take that as a "NO".

Some years back during a pastorate there was a young couple visiting the church from out of town. Here from Texas, they were originally from the area. The couple wanted my time for counsel directly after the service. They were separated and he wanted to live with other women. They had a young boy, not in the room. I knew the husband, he was as worldly as they get. She pleaded with him to stay, he kept defending his lifestyle. He knew the gospel and raised under a godly mom that attended our church. I was shocked by his hardness and cruel heart.

God began to move on my heart for his lost and wreckless life. He was a commercial pilot flying twin engine private jets. He and his partner owned the business. I warned him about his sinful and deadly lack of the fear of God. Then the prophetic showed me a picture. I warned him one last time as his wife watched. I spoke out of the picture saying "don't find yourself in sudden need of God because you don't have enough glide ratio for your kind of living". It was 6 years later his jet lost power and crashed, both pilots died.

Sometimes a word needs to be given that doesn't feel good to either but if acted upon is sufficient to save a life.

Anything more said to you concerning Spiritual Gifts would be like casting pearls before swine. You really don't want to know anything for you seem to know it all. Go look up someone from your own reformed camp and debate them.

For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
    -- I Corinthians 14:31 (KJV) --
The Principle of CONTEXT is very likely THE most foundational and fundamental principle of Hermeneutics, which one writer called both the art and the science of Bible interpretation. The principle of context includes not only those verses immediately surrounding the verse or verses under consideration, but also cultural, linguistic, and historical factors as well. Violating the context principle will result in either misunderstanding of Scripture, misapplication of Scripture, or both.
The verse quoted above has been pulled out of its context and misapplied by well-meaning individuals who did so, not for impure motives, but in a genuine desire to see all believers begin to flow and function in the supernatural anointings and manifestations God has already made available for them.
I have attended such meetings where believers were not only encouraged, but often compelled to "prophesy." "Everyone is supposed to prophesy," it was declared, and so everyone in the room was put on the spot to "prophesy" whether or not there was any unction upon them by the Holy Spirit to do so. Such meetings droned on for HOURS, to give every individual present opportunity to "prophesy," with most of the "utterances" repetitive, incoherent, or just simply "flesh." Even more problematic was when individuals were put on the spot to deliver a personal prophetic word to another. Never in my experience have I ever seen such a meeting not devolve eventually into chaos and error. And those who did not "prophesy" fluently or accurately were encouraged to "keep trying." Again, most of the motives for such erroneous teaching and misdirected encouragement were noble, birthed in a desire to see all believers function in the supernatural (which they certainly CAN and SHOULD).
Part of the problem stems from a misunderstanding of the distinction that must be made between the "simple" manifestation of prophecy (I Cor. 12:8-10) and the ministry anointing of the prophet (I Cor. 12:28-30; Eph. 4:11). While all believers might indeed move in the "simple" manifestation of prophecy, which IS accessible to "all" (I Cor. 12:7), that does NOT make believers which do so into "prophets." And because all believers might develop spiritual sensitivity by praying in tongues, to move over into that "bubbling" realm of "simple" prophecy, that does not in itself qualify all believers to go around indiscriminately handing out "personal words" to others which might confuse or misdirect them.
Then what did Paul intend by his statement that "all may prophesy?" We find the answer in the CONTEXT. The broader context of this verse deals with the operation of the supernatural within the gathering of the assembly. The immediate context, however, says, "Let the PROPHETS speak..." (I Cor. 14:29). So who are the "all" that may "prophesy one by one" in this CONTEXT? Certainly NOT every new, immature, or unknown person in the building, but rather the two or three recognized, seasoned PROPHETS that have been recognized and released to move in that gathering by the leadership! And of course, we must add here, that leadership that does not make room for the recognized, seasoned prophets is missing a large portion of what God has for the assembly!
In our quest for a greater demonstration of the supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit, and in our desire to see all believers enter into supernatural function, let us not pull Scripture out of CONTEXT, and let us bring forth and release everything the Holy Spirit has for us within the parameters of Biblical order. Be Blessed!

No, it's not a 'no', but exactly what he says it is. No point in posting it if you're just going to respond to it in the same manner as everything else, dismissing it not matter what it says because you don't believe in it.

Who's said I don't believe in it? See next post.

The Apostle John warns us saying, "do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world".
How do we check them? Well the only reliable thing to test them against is the Bible.

If my asking questions to verify that something is Biblical and correct is too high a standard then sorry. But too many in the Church (if they are actually in the Church) are too willing to accept lies because it tickles their ears. In the US Christians are all worried about what might happen if Biden gets in, but have never worried about what was happening in the Church with all the false teachers and false prophets getting it. Judgement starts at the house of God does it not?
