True Repentance brings True Salvation. I was using the law of God last week to show someone their need for the Savior. They said that they wanted to be free. They had been in a "program" for their alcoholism, so I asked them if their alcoholism was a sickness or a sin.
I told them that the scriptures say that no drunkard will inherit the Kingdom.

As it seemed they were about ready to break over their sin, a well intentioned (but severely mistaken) brother butted in and told them that "it doesn't matter if you call it a sickness, because Jesus came to heal us of our sicknesses. Wasn't the setting to correct a brother in front of a non-believer, but it brought forth a still birth instead of a new birth.

Jesus said that Repentance and Remission of sins MUST be preached throughout the nations. The Law is there to reveal to the proud "I, I, I" person that they are indeed condemned because of their sins, and therefore very much in need of Jesus to save them.

He came to set us free FROM sin, not give us freedom in our sins. If we are not set free from sin then we are still very much chained to death and hell.

The watered down "Just believe in Jesus" version without any mention of sin and repentance has filled many pews with thorny ground hearers.

The gospel has not changed one bit since Peter first preached it in Acts 2: "Repent! And be baptized for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the Holy Spirit!"

It is simple, never changing, and very Life Changing/Life Giving.

Why do folks have to water it down?

    Good stuff.

Well it does matter what you call it because as you said no drunkards will be in heaven. If it's a 'sickness' then he can go to heaven with it. Did you ever correct the person?

One other thing, and I know this was someone with you and not a relative of the person you're witnessing to, always do it with them alone. No relative(s). Their relatives even if they've been praying for them to be saved will try to protect them from God if they see the conviction setting it. Seen it too many times. I have a friend that was witnessing to a guy and his mother was there who was praying for them to be saved got so uncomfortable with the way my friend was talking to them she literally got her son out the door. And she was wanting him to get saved! Let the Holy Spirit crush down on them with all his convicting power and let them repent to get out under the weight of it! Feeling sorry for someone under conviction just doesn't cut it. Let the Holy Spirit do his work. Finney has some teaching on false comfort for sinners.

One other thing, there is a real popular evangelist who I really like his teaching, but he holds these salvation crusades where everybody goes out and witnesses and basically they're just getting the people to say the 'sinners' prayer' and then coming back with hundreds of conversions. Well, they're not conversions but false converts. I've even heard him criticize Ray Comfort's method, but he's using a 'pray this prayer and you're saved' no matter what approach and basically just inoculating them against the gospel for the next person that comes along and tries to actually get them saved.

Not to hijack VW's thread of course.

Redirect back to the topic momentarily, someone on Facebook today tried to argue with me that Jesus is the Son of the Most High (true) but that He is NOT the Most High Himself (false). That left me scratching my head for a moment until I found the following passage prophesying John the Baptist's ministry:

And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, (Luke 1:76; RSV)
