100 Years Ago, for the third week of October 1920, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:


A Greeley woman, charged with an assault on her husband, was released from jail today when it was discovered she hit him with her shoe after he began assaulting her. She was released and her husband fined $5 and court costs on a charge of "disturbance."

The Cleveland Indians won the World Series over the Brooklyn Dodgers, 3-1. In the series, three games were won by Cleveland pitcher Stanley (The Big Pole) Coveleskie, to set a series record.

Just a reminder: with the election coming soon, you need to be registered to vote. If you haven't already registered, you have until this Thursday to get it done.

Several hundred farmers attended the speech in Nunn this week by Congressman Charles Timberlake. If he is re-elected, he promises that he will look into the large amount of Argentine and Canadian wheat which is being shipped into the U.S. and hurting the farmers' market.

Local farmers are also having problems with the price of potatoes. The prices have been very unsettled, ranging from $1.15 to $1.25 per 100-pounds.

Democrats across the country are complaining about the presidential race, saying "The Republicans are trying to buy the presidency, and don't let anybody tell you anything different."

Meanwhile, the Republicans are saying the Democrats are ignoring the high cost of living today, and won't do anything about it.

In Mead, Town Marshal George Huffman was walking on patrol at 1:30 this morning when he caught a man trying to break into the First National Bank. He ordered the suspect to step back, and he started running. The marshal fired four shots at the man, who was hit and went down. The marshal checked him, then ran to get a doctor for the suspect, but when they returned, he was gone. They followed a path of blood for two blocks, and then it disappeared. The marshal believes the man was picked up by his companions and carried to an automobile. The sheriff's office has been alerted.

In the past 10 days, Sheriff Hall has arrested seven auto thieves, all trying to steal seven separate autos. They are all from out of state, and are in jail now.

Six little girls of Helen Dedrick's class were excited beyond their dreams Saturday when they were taken to Eaton to see an aeroplane. For the girls, it was the first plane they have ever seen up close.

A Keenesburg couple has filed for divorce in District Court here. They were married in Denver on Aug. 24, and lived together for one week before splitting up.
