The Liberal Dilemma: A Black Man Leading the GOP Field - Bernie Godberg

Wait, I'm confused. If Republicans in general and conservatives in particular are a bunch of racists, why is Ben Carson at or near the top of just about every poll?

The latest poll, this one by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal, has Carson leading the pack with support from 29 percent of GOP primary voters. That's the highest percentage any Republican has gotten so far in that poll – and by "any" I mean black or white. Donald Trump, who I'm pretty sure is white, came in second with 23 percent.

Ok, back to my question: If Republicans and conservatives hate black people how do we account for the success of a black man running for president as a Republican? Actually, that's easy: Republicans support Carson in an attempt to show that they're not racists – while at the same time gutting any program that might actually help black people.

You see how devious those racist Republicans can be! Besides, Carson isn't really black. He's conservative.

I almost feel sorry for liberals. They have to concoct wild explanations in order to avoid coming to grips with reality. And here's the reality, they can't seem to grasp: Conservatives don't have a problem with black people. They have a problem with liberal people, regardless of their color.

Or to put it another way: Republicans don't have a problem with black people running for president – unless they're liberal black people running for president.

That's why conservatives admire Ben Carson and not Barack Obama. Or why they respect Condoleezza Rice and Clarence Thomas and the scholar Tom Sewell, but not Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or black professors who actually think that mass murder is the product of white privilege.

It's not complicated. And since liberals are so smart (just ask them) it's odd that they don't get it.

Now to the other side of the coin: Ben Carson is a nice man and it's good that he brings civility to the campaign. But if his success with Republicans doesn't fade, there's a good chance Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the United States.

I have outlined in this space the goofy things Ben Carson has said – about how ObamaCare is the worst thing to happen to America since slavery; about how some people go into prison straight and come out gay; and about his libelous smear that the United States "is very much like Nazi Germany." You expect this from some right-wing nut who figured out a way to get on the ballot – not from a candidate who is leading the pack.

Conservatives were outraged when dopey liberals compared President Bush to a Nazi. But somehow now it's okay to make outlandish comparisons between the United States under Barack Obama to Germany under Hitler?

This is the poison of polarization. When they do it, it's wrong. When we do it, hey they did it first. We're not in third grade anymore.

Here's what Peter Wehner wrote in Commentary magazine on the subject: "Politics isn't meant to be a catharsis. Yet for many of my fellow conservatives, raging against the system — the much-maligned 'establishment' — is just that. I get that it may be emotionally satisfying to cheer on careless rhetoric, to portray every political difference as a 'give me liberty or give me death' moment, and to imply that America under Barack Obama is like Germany under Adolf Hitler. But it is also intellectually discrediting, politically self-defeating and unworthy of those who are citizens of a great republic."

Ben Carson doesn't deserve the cheap shots aimed at him by liberals. But he doesn't deserve the GOP nomination for president, either.

Liberals are baby killers... it'd be a good idea to distance one's self from those that do and support such things because God said those that take pleasure (agreement) in those that do evil are worthy of death themselves (Romans 1)

Surely you aren't associating with liberals?

I associate with those who are pro-life, in the womb-to-tomb sense; e.g., Pope Francis.

I distance myself from the social Darwinists and the pro-war crowd.

The pope is on the wrong side of the Lord... he is the leader of a world wide cult that does not teach the Word of God but instead teaches catholicism which is an anti-Christian cult, very similar to the pharisees and the sadducees back in Jesus' days on earth.

The catholics have killed many Christians and Jews through out history and will eventually advocate such actions again as they join forces with Moslems to form the satanic one world religion. It's not far away and you can see how the pope guy is bringing all the world's religions together now... we are already seeing some of satan's very best deception.

Many Christians in the US will take the bait hook, line and sinker since "being happy" and "being positive" is what they consider the be the whole of the gospel.

And, God is pro-war... it's the only way to stop tyranny until He gets here personally and locks the devil up as He takes over governing this planet. He will rule with a hand of iron... meaning, people will be doing things His way and will not be allowed to live in rebellion against Jesus Who will be the King of the earth for 1000 years.

If it were not for war... we would be speaking German, Japanese, or Russian right now and there would be zero freedom in this world as we would be living under a totalitarian or communist regime.

We should be at war with islam right now, but we aren't so the islamic anti-christ will be here before and the pope will be his false prophet which will most likely be the current francis guy that leads their cult right now.

Why would they be upset at Republicans for forcing the Civil Rights Act to get passed?

Southern democrats were fiercely against it.

They vote democrat because the White House on the plantation in DC gives out more free stuff when the prez is a democrat.

Republicans should not become like democrats and promise more free stuff just to try and get in to office. There are a growing number of minorities out there with common sense to know life is better when you maintain gainful employment instead of being enslaved to the DC plantation.

Yes, that is a reference to slavery because it is slavery of a different kind... but slavery none the less. In fact, the one world government and the anti-christ will come to power in the same way the democrats do, by promising free stuff!

Regarding what you said about God being pro-war, I would point out that Jesus said "blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." I would suggest that, generally-speaking, God is anti-war. Which is not to say that on some occasions, after all other options have been exhausted, war is not a necessary evil. But it should never be the default or "go to" position, the first option considered. Because in war, many innocent people die, and because the adoption of war as the "go to" first option leads even the well-intentioned to commit horrible mistakes. We've seen this in our own history.
