Christian college confronts Antifa's threat to damage, remove cross

After Antifa activists threatened to damage and remove a cross at a private Christian college in Oregon – claiming it is a racist symbol – the school took a bold stand against the radical left group, including prayer and armed guards.

The cross – which school officials say represents "hope and unconditional love from our heavenly Father" – has been prominently displayed on the New Hope Christian College campus in Eugene, Oregon, since the 1990s, and it was stressed that the structure has no connection with racism.

"The history of the cross and how it came to reside on our campus has been well documented over the years, and there is no evidence to suggest our cross has direct roots to racism, other than it once resided on Skinner Butte – the same location where racist events were held in the 1920s," the college proclaimed in a statement posted on Facebook that was displayed on the local station's KVAL.com. "People referring to our cross as the 'KKK' cross is false."

It was also emphasized that it was not until decades after the discriminatory events that the cross was created.

"From 1934–1964, wooden crosses were displayed on Skinner Butte; these crosses were not associated with the racist activities of the 1920s, but simply powerful symbols of hope set high above the City of Eugene," the school added.

A rally cry targeting the cross, called "War on Racism Removal of ALL racist monuments Eugene/Springfield," was posted earlier by the activists on social media.

"We will be using this event site to declare a War on Racism," the organizer's Facebook post reads. "This will be to identify ALL racist monuments, where they are located, how they were established, and their purpose. I peacefully request support in asking the New Hope Bible College ... to review the history, then remove and replace the cross."

    Inviting God to intercede

The Christian community – including Tim Ravan of Global Connectors – showed up at campus last week to gather in a prayer movement that called upon God's protection over the cross ... and for His ultimate defeat of the enemy.

"[W]ithout intercession ... nothing happens," Ravan told CBN News. "There is a strong core of people standing for what is right. This is Kingdom business, and the Church has to be awakened – we are standing for the cross."

He noted how hundreds – including non-believers who showed up to thank the prayer warriors for their stand against Antifa and not succumbing to their intimidation.

"Cars were driving by – honking their horns – and people were saying, 'Thank you,'" Ravan recounted. "Non-believers were there to support the school – people were really responding, standing up and doing something. This is really impacting the nation – it's a line in the sand."

New Hope Christian College President Wayne Cordiero – who also serves as a pastor – said the school and the community are fed up with the left's bullying.

″[The people who showed up are saying,] 'We are tired of this, and we're not going to stand it anymore," Cordiero insisted, noting that defacing the cross would be a hate crime under Oregon law, according to RegisterGuard.com. "[New Hope is a multiracial campus with staff members from around the world, and] if they say we are racist, it's like, 'You're blind. Go somewhere else because you are not making any sense.'"

After participating in the event, Cordeiro said he experienced God's presence while he and fellow Christians prayed around the cross for His protection.

"We worshipped for two hours in the midst of it," Cordeiro informed CBN. "We had a safety and security team, [and] the majority of us were at the cross worshipping and praising. [However, even though Antifa did not damage the cross, the college will] remain vigilant – in case protesters come back."

    Antifa – anti-God, anti-America ...

To the north last weekend, Antifa made its agenda to do away with God and America's founding principles clearly known.

"Antifa agitators were also in Portland [last] weekend, where they burned Bibles and an American flag in front of a federal courthouse," CBN News reported. "The riots have drawn thousands to the city park in front of Portland's federal courthouse. Some say they are protesting for racial justice; others want to defund the police nationwide. It's clear that most of those participating in the riots don't want to abolish the police, but instead want to act like the police to enforce their own agenda.
