The Bee Explains: What Is The Prosperity Gospel?

Came across this again today. One can say so much in satire. And who cannot trust the Bee. Look at this .....

Anyway "The Prosperity Gospel". It keeps popping up so we should remind ourselves what it is every now and then.

The Bee shouldn't need to touch it, but unfortunately "A devout follower of Christ named Judas Iscariot laid the foundation for the prosperity gospel circa AD 30 when he successfully named and claimed a bag full of money in the name of Jesus, and it gained worldwide appeal in the 20th century thanks to Oral Roberts, Robert Tilton, Kenneth Hagin, and natural mankind's innate greed" and even today people are still falling for it.

So re-read it; enjoy it; have a laugh; but weep for those who have been deceived.

    That's a ridiculous metaphor.

Because it's satire Colonel ("the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose" something)

They got a lot of stuff wrong, but then they don't expect people to take them serious. The problem is Word of Faith critics do expect to be taken serious, and are about as accurate as a satire site like the Bee, and yet people believe them. By the way, John Piper and John MacArthur are both millionaires, and they made their money the same way Joel Osteen did, as authors. And John the Apostle was healthy enough to live into his 90s, and reportedly was prosperous enough to hang out in a bath house in Ephesus.

Don't know about Piper, but MacArthur's been employed as a bible teacher for about 50 years, also teaches at their Bible School, gets paid as a guest speaker and, yes, has published books (a search of John MacArthur on Amazon limiting it to Christian Books and Bibles returns over 1,000 results) so that he has accumulated wealth as a result of his efforts over 50+ years should not be a surprise.

Yes, when they read "On Friday night, March 13, 2020, at 9:24 p.m., the Word of the Lord came to Kenneth Copeland concerning the Coronavirus COVID-19:"This disease called COVID-19 will be over much sooner than you think. Christian people all over this country praying have overwhelmed it. Give Me all the glory," saith the Spirit of Grace. "And many, many people will come to know Me through it."I am still LORD over this nation, and I am on the throne, and faith in Me changes things!""

And later "Wind, almighty strong south wind, heat, burn this thing in the name of Jesus. Satan you bow your knees, you fall on your face, COVID-19 ... I blow the wind of God on you. You are destroyed forever and you will never be back. Thank you, Lord God. Let it happen. Cause it to happen. The wind of God, it doesn't have to be a fast wind,"

and, "It hates heat. It hates humidity, it hates water. It just dies," continued Copeland, "It's even better, I just heard the Lord say this 'cause I've witnessed it, it's even better if there is no wind at all — just enough heat to keep from killing them people in New York City"

Although this person has publicly claimed to speak for God as he lied, (and not just to a few, what he said is in the major newspapers and he knew that would happen) he is not censured by his WOF peers; he is not called to repent; he hasn't recanted; he has not stepped down from ministry as someone who has made such a grave error should, and yet people still believe him???

Yes, when that happens, WOF critics do expect to be taken seriously.

What does that have to do with critics of WoF? I don't condone Copeland's reckless decrees any more than I condone his overture to the pope. But I do hold to believing, confessing, and acting in faith in God's Word. I do believe that physical healing is in the atonement, and that God desires our prosperity. That's not going to change even if Copeland turns out to be an ax murderer.

By the way, John MacArthur made bogus claims about being at the scene of Martin Luther King's assassination. I don't know of any WoF person who would try to use that against all Calvinists.
