    100 Years Ago, for the second week of July 1920, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:

    A Colorado man, Jupiter Pluvius, has been paid thousands of dollars by Washington State to help them with their drought. He claims to be a professional rainmaker, but so far, his efforts to bring rain have failed. It isn't known if he will have to return their money if it doesn't rain soon.

    In a jury for a divorce trial at the courthouse, three men who have religious convictions against divorce were questioned by the judge. One of the men, who said he couldn't approve a divorce, was dismissed. The other two men said they could consider the divorce after they hear evidence in the case.

    Few Greeley people know that Republican presidential candidate Warren G. Harding had a long visit to Greeley three years ago. Marshall DeWolfe, editor of the Kersey Surprise newspaper, is Harding's stepson, and the family gathered in Greeley.

    Five teenagers stole the automobile of the Rev. R.J. Fletcher on Friday, then drove the auto to Gill to shoot craps at a gambling house. They were jailed on charges of auto theft and illegal gambling. It is said their parents are very angry at them.

    The tent-and-motorcycle city for the homeless is at Island Grove Park in Greeley and it's overflowing. There is no room for others to visit the park at this time because of the high number of bikers and tents.

    The hail storm Tuesday night did not damage any crops in Weld County because it was a soft hail. The moisture was appreciated by the farmers.

    FOR SALE: 160 acres of farmland, near Greeley, well-watered, lays good, $10 per acre.

    The local office of the Salvation Army has started a magazine drive. Capt. Brooks is desirous of getting 15 tons of magazines in the next three weeks.

    Louise Shepard celebrated her 86th birthday this week by taking an auto ride. There was also a birthday party set up by her friends and family.

    A 16-year-old boy is being held in jail for the disappearance of a motorcycle machine in Greeley. The boy was arrested when he tried to sell a motorcycle cylinder and carburetor and they were identified as the parts of a missing motorcycle.

    Two Fort Lupton men are in a court battle over a jackass. One said he wanted a highly-bred jackass for breeding. The other man bought a jackass for $65, altered its appearance and sold it as a pure-breed for $800. The victim in the case is suing the other man for $3,000.

    Thay was great. I wondered about that man's name because it was so unusual, don't think it was his real name cuz it's from Greek mythology.
