The whole point to the Kindle is that doesn't emit light which makes it much easier on the eyes to read text on. 5.5" is a ridiculously small screen, I think my samsung pad is 10" and that is still annoyingly small but at least useful. The one I'm using right now is 24"

The Kindle paperwhite is capable of being lighted for night reading or not for daytime reading. It is also capable of having fonts that are changeable and can be made as large as you want. With the small size it goes into a purse or a inside pocket pretty well. IT is very portable and light. Make it awesome...just as a book or paperback is. If I want the larger size I use my laptop or desktop.
My kindle Fire on the other hand is about 7" which is good for a tablet. still portable for me. It does games , internet, music and anything that any other tablet or small laptop would do. Has awesome graphics and good sound on the FireHD which I have and the FireHDX which my son has.

Yeah, but it's a royal pain for night reading.

But the papetwhite as a dedicated reader does both. Best of both worlds. I use mine in bright light or in the dark in bed. Set the font up and i am set to go.

I know...I'm jealous. When mine dies...I'm getting one of those! :)

Do...they are not that expensive. If they go on sale i will let you know.
What they do is ...reader with wifi and a small browser for snagging books. Not fancy but usable. Doesnt play games or music or anything. But awesome as a reader. Get it BEFORE your other one dies.

That's all I do with the one I have now. I snag free books that come available....check out books on the library, and purchase the occasional novel, that I don't care if I own a hardcopy or not.
