"borderline Christian liberals", never got that one before.
Read a bit more of Jeremiah today and we see "A death sentence for this man! For he has prophesied against this city as you have heard in your hearing." (J 26:11)
Why did they say that? Because Jeremiah obeyed God when God said say to them, 'Thus says the Lord, "If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law which I have set before you, to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I have been sending to you again and again, but you have not listened; then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city I will make a curse to all the nations of the earth."'" (J 26:4-6)
Man hasn't changed has he? He still wants to hear the prophets saying "good things", like God wants you to be healthy, and wealthy, and to "eat, drink and be merry". Sinners don't want to hear true prophets like Jeremiah's tell the truth like, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked" (J 17:9 KJV)
A post from Babylon Bee in the last 24 hours says satirically "Church To Cease All References To God In Effort To Boost Attendance", but if you follow their Facebook Link you'll see that so many people recognise this as being close to the truth at times.
One of the interesting comments on Facebook is:
The last church I went to had a good Friday service that was only for believers and church members. He spent 90 minutes hammering the congregation for being hypocrites, being selfish and driving out new members, not behaving in a Godly manner. It was incredible, and not enough pastors have the guts to do stuff like that.
sadly the current one reply is:
ah the medieval church of flagilisum, all the sack cloth and ashes you can carry.
