Thread: Mystery Coin

    Mystery Coin

Our 110yr old home sits on historical property that dates back to the 1880's. I have had a blast wondering what else will be uncovered. I have yet to do a metal detector search but anytime I put a shovel to the ground something bearing clues comes up.

Yesterday I found this odd 5cent coin when digging near the shop out back. I have done a few searches but yet find nothing like this:

It's like playing wheel of fortune. Just not enough clues. It may "script" payable to the company store here in town back in our lumber boom days.

Similar to the old coal mining companies of the past century. There is an old song that goes "I owe my soul to the company store". It's a wild guess but one of our large turn of the century factories may have paid their employees "script" coins to be spent at a company owned store.
