Thank you. She turned 41 in April. They gave her an ICD to shock her heart should an arrhythmia ever happen again. 3 years ago, in April, she had her heart mitral valve repaired, same surgery her dad had 12 years ago. We're sure blessed that she's still alive. When she gives her testimony, she says only 1 in 400 survive an away from hospital cardiac arrest like hers. I have a thread here somewhere that covers it in depth when it all happened. Pretty frightening stuff as she had a 2yo and a 4 yo at the time.

Malaria drug and zinc, the missing link

MYSTERY surrounds why an anti-malaria drug is not being tested as a Covid-19 treatment in combination with zinc, which doctors say is crucial for efficacy.

As we reported recently, President Trump revealed he was taking hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) alongside zinc after reports that many doctors are doing the same to help ward off Covid-19.

Criticism of the President rose sharply after a non-randomised study published in the Lancet said that HCQ provided no benefit to hospitalised Covid-19 patients while being linked to increased deaths.

What the mainstream media did not point out is that the Lancet study failed to test HCQ with zinc. Other experts have found zinc to be vital for efficacy in this context.

Zinc, available as an over-the-counter supplement, has long been seen as an immune-system booster that helps develop immune cells, or antibodies, and can strengthen the body's response to a virus.

American infectious disease specialist Joseph Rahimian explained that, in relation to Covid-19, zinc 'does the heavy lifting and is the primary substance attacking the pathogen'. HCQ is said to work as a delivery systemfor zinc in fighting coronavirus.

Ironically, the Lancet study came out at the same time as it was reported that India's premier health body had expanded use of HCQ as a preventive for key workers following three studies showing positive results.

New study shows no benefit, and possible harm, from taking hydroxychloroquine for Covid19

In brief: In this large multinational real-world analysis, we did not observe any benefit of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine (when used alone or in combination with a macrolide) on in-hospital outcomes, when initiated early after diagnosis of COVID-19. Each of the drug regimens of chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine alone or in combination with a macrolide was associated with an increased hazard for clinically significant occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias and increased risk of in-hospital death with COVID-19.

Looks like the referenced "study" is a total fabrication.

Influential hydroxychloroquine study used suspect data from company run by pornographic model and sci-fi author

A study showing that the anti-malaria drug touted by President Trump, hydroxychloroquine, harmed COVID-19 patients is likely based on fabricated data.

An investigation by the Guardian found that the study, published in the Lancet (a prestigious medical journal), relied on data from a company called Surgisphere that appears to be highly suspect. The Lancet released an "expression of concern" about the study during the investigation.

The study found that COVID-19 patients who took hydroxychloroquine had an increased risk of death and heart problems and was cited to criticize Trump's promotion of the drug. It used a sample of 96,032 people from 671 hospitals on six continents. But it is unclear how Surgisphere obtained that data.

Surgisphere was founded in 2008 by vascular surgeon Sapan Desai, who is also the co-author of the Lancet study. Desai claims Surgisphere has 11 employees. The company's marketing executive appears to be a pornographic model and event hostess, while its science editor appears to be a science fiction author.

The question is how Surgisphere managed to compile such a massive dataset in such a short period of time and with so few employees. The Guardian stated that it is unclear "how the company was able to put in place data-sharing agreements from so many hospitals worldwide, including those with limited technology, and to reconcile different languages and coding systems, all while staying within the regulatory, data-protection, and ethical rules of each country."

That Big Hydroxychloroquine Study the Media Went Nuts Over Turned Out to Be a Scam

Hydroxychloroquine is back in the news today after a major study, which was widely touted by the media a few weeks ago, has turned out to be a scam. The study was also used to change coronavirus treatment policies by the World Health Organization.

Now, we are learning that that the company that supposedly did the study, and has helped push others, is a front company of some kind. Further, the person who put the data together is not a scientist, but a science fiction author.

The studies produced by this company were published by Lancet, a renowned medical journal, and used as evidence to attack Donald Trump with. Lancet has now issued an "expression of concern," demanding that the company provide details on their data and methodology. Given what's already been revealed, you'd think they'd just disown the studies altogether, but I suspect they want to save face.

While these studies being frauds is bad, what's worse is that the media took their message far and wide, literally painting hydroxychloroquine as some kind of death sentence. How many people who might have been helped by the drug, if used properly early in the process, might be alive had countries and doctors not been so discouraged from using it?

We may never know the answer to that, though the usual suspects continue to dig in behind their narrative.

This does provide some notion to how flawed the medical journal system is. Why would something like this be published and used to make life and death decisions when Lancet wasn't even aware of their methodology? It seems rather insane on it's face.

I'll also note that some of us pointed out at the time that the study was flawed from the get go. They included data on the drug being used alone, which scientifically makes no sense. We already know it doesn't work by itself. It also doesn't work with just an antibiotic. It's the inclusion of zinc that doctors have testified to making the difference......

Wow...apparently The Lancet just tarnished their reputation big time. Someone with connections, a lot of money and a hatred of Trump obviously orchestrated that and the media happily ran with it. Sad part is that it probably cost some people their lives. Hope they follow the money trail and make them pay.

Researchers Retract Study Linking Malaria Pill to Heart Risk

A study that said a malaria drug backed by President Donald Trump to treat and prevent coronavirus raised the risk of heart side effects and death has been retracted by the authors.

The study was published on May 22 in the Lancet, a prestigious U.K. medical journal. Questions soon arose about the accuracy of the underlying data, said researchers led by Mandeep Mehra, the medical director of Brigham and Women's Hospital Heart and Vascular Center, in the retraction note published by the journal Thursday.

While the company that produced the original data, Surgisphere Corp., had signaled that it would cooperate with an independent review, it ultimately reneged and said doing so would violate confidentiality agreements, wrote the study authors. "As such, our reviewers were not able to conduct an independent and private peer review," the authors said.

Lancetgate Is a Humiliation for Trump's Medical Critics

Why was a once-respected medical journal prepared to run a study from so dubious a source having apparently submitted it to so little scrutiny?

As Toby Young, among others, argues at Lockdown Sceptics, the decision appears as if it had more to do with political activism than with disinterested science.
