I should try writing something longer one day, but from my side of the fence I'd suggest thatwhat most of us don't like is that as we understand his concept of God it makes God out to be the creator of evil/sin/bad intentions toward His own creation.

But we agree, The bible does not paint that picture of God.

My starting point in any discussion about stuff like election, hell, or tragedy is that GOD IS RIGHTEOUS. His very nature prevents Him from any unrighteous acts. I start from there, then sometimes I have to say I just don't know how this or that doctrine plays out, but God IS righteous!

    True Bookman.

What a lot of us tend to do is define what we think is within the boundaries of being righteous and want God to fit into that.

We are human; we are fallen; we are sinful; we are ignorant of the mind of God. The first temptation was to be like God, and it's still there, and we still want to be.

Then people attribute any doctrine they can come up with to God and call God rightoeus anyway because he is per definition.

Exactly what Calvinist do - they claim the corner to God's sovereignty and holiness and everyone else is wrong and will fight to throw you off that corner

You know, going on from this point, we have to also say that God's Word is both sovereign and righteous. All doctrine is to be based solely upon His rightly divided Word. As God is righteous, so we must also hold His Word as righteous as well.

    For ever, O LORD,
thy word is settled in heaven. Psalms 119:89 (KJV)

    I love these deepening discussions.

Grace, Shalom, and Maranatha in Jesus name.

When you say "election", are you saying that God created some as the "Elect" and others to go to Hell?
