Sorry you're going thru this, Sweetie...
One of the Partners at my (former) company dealt with Gout attacks a couple of times a year - He drank a lot of Pepsi, however, and his doctor told him to cut it out...
He would stop drinking them long enuf for the gout to clear up, but then he went right back to drinking at least 4 or 5 a day (that we knew of)

I managed to get in to see my dr today and she prescribed ... The pain of gout is comparable to my freshly broken wrist. Tylenol 3 barely touches it. So I started the meds tonight and hopefully, by this time tomorrow, I'll have some relief.

I had to take the commonly prescribed anti-gout med for a while. Can't remember the name.

My mom was on a gout pill called Allopurinol but a couple of times she got a bad flare up and the doctor would give her some kind of shot for gout. One time it was so bad they literally had to carry her out of the house while she was sitting on a chair. A medical assistant came out to the car and gave her that shot and to our amazement a few hours later she was fine and on her way to bingo.
The meds really, really helped as far as pain but there's still lots of swelling. I'm on Colchicine .6mg for 3 days + Ketoprophen (SR Ibuprophen) ... then I start on Allopurinol 200mg for 3 months then I'm supposed to go get some blood tests.
I'm going to continue with the Goutrin, but I think I mentioned that it affects my sense of taste, which is why I've quit taking it in the past as soon as a flareup was dealt with.
Mind you, the prescribed meds can have some nasty side effects so I'll just have to see where this all goes.
Krys, that's really interesting about your mom and the shots ... My dr didn't mention a shot, but the med I'm on for 3 days certainly worked almost that fast. Incredible difference overnight!

Glad you're feeling better, Sis. - Praying that the "side effects" are minimal.

Thanks... I am feeling better but the side effects have been pretty severe.... I made it through the 3 days (barely) of the Colchicine and now, after just 2 doses of the Allopurinol, I think I'm going to have to give it up as I'm developing a really angry red rash (and some lesser issues)... it doesn't itch but it's pretty awful looking. I suppose I should go back to the dr and then go get some pure black cherry juice to take along with the Goutrin. This whole thing really sucks.
