    Romney's Revolt

A friend wrote an article that I thought was worth the read. Just thought I would share it.

    Thoughts on Romney's Revolt

First and foremost, I do not believe Romney's rationale for voting to impeach and immediately remove Trump from office. In the first place, Mr. Romney lied on the Senate floor when he made his speech. He stated he and Trump had been long time friends. Yet, history records remarks Romney made about Trump in the 2016 Presidential race as "an unprecedented attack" by a major candidate upon another member of that party's candidates. Hardly sounds like friendship to me.

Second, Romney bases his vote against Trump as being based on his conscience, that he would not be able to sleep at night if he voted any other way. That statement reveals Mitt Romney does not understand even the rudimentary aspects of rendering judgments. Judgments are based on evidence. Decisions are based on facts, not just unsupported, unproven statements and accusations or even "feelings".

In American jurisprudence there are several standards of proof. First, there is what is called "Probable cause." Probable cause is determined by answering the following question: Is there enough evidence for an ordinary person to believe the accused MAY have done what is accused. Ex: Two cars were seen racing on First Street, one of them was red. Police began a search for a red car, and found one 3 miles away. This does NOT meet even the probable cause standard. There may have been 20 red cars within a 3 mile radius of the incident. But, if the description was a bit different: a red car with Idaho tags beginning with PEA and a convertible with the top down and a large driver with blond hair, then finding something matching this description would lead most reasonable people to believe that red car MAY have been involved in the race.

Second, is what is called "Preponderance of the evidence". This is a standard used in many civil disputes where there is more evidence suggesting someone did or did not do something than there is to support the opposing position.

Third, is what is called "Proof beyond a REASONABLE doubt." Note it is not ABSOLUTE proof, but something that is substantial enough to refute any reasonable doubts. This is the standard used in most criminal trials.

Fourth, in American jurisprudence, the burden of proof is upon the prosecution. The defense is not under ANY obligation to prove innocence. Part of that is because it is widely understood that proving a negative is philosophically impossible. This clown show from the House, led by the liar of the century did not have adequate EVIDENCE to substantiate their claims. Accusations are just CLAIMS. Courts do not adjudicate based on claims.
They make decisions based on EVIDENCE.

The House managers made piles of CLAIMS, but could not, or did not provide clear and convincing EVIDENCE to substantiate them.

Fifth, the defense was able to refute the claims of the prosecution, and they did so with fact based statements that provided solid evidence of their positions. It is not about who can say the one thing the most times. It is about whether it stands scrutiny. The defense is not obligated to prove their client did NOT do what is accused, only to raise doubts about whether their client did as accused. Remember the standard is "beyond reasonable doubt."

My simple observation is that given the basis of Romney's claims of the what and how of his decision making, he lied. Romney did not base his decision on whether Trump did anything or not. It was nothing but unbridled retaliation for having been rejected by Trump for Secretary of State. All Romney did is prove what a little man he really is on the inside.

I voted for Romney when he ran for President. Given the choices at that time, I do not regret my vote. I cannot imagine anyone who could do more damage to the country than Barack Obama. But given the playing out of his statements, his rationale and his rather obvious lack of character, I will never vote for Mitt Romney for anything again.

I am Nikos and I approve this message.
