Yesterday at our church, worship was pretty good. Progressing nicely... then at the end, the worship leader took us from the hymn, "Holy, Holy, Holy," to "No Longer a Slave (to Sin)" which is totally an "I" song. It's a good song... it declares that I am a child of God, but to me it isn't just worshiping God for Who he is.

I can't say the worship leader looks to exalt himself, not at all. He's humble and loves God with all his heart... but I guess he still needs to work on his worship selection.

Needs to have an awareness of purpose in each song, perhaps. In this case the declarative "no longer..." didn't fit well with the moment of singing to God about God, that wonderful "turning toward to kiss" that defines worship, that prolonged and continual state of awe.
