Another matter that I'm wondering about is exactly how early all those biographical details were published originally. If they were published well within Lake's lifetime then his contemporaries would have found it easy to criticize them, and they would have, given that he became quite well known in the US. The fact that his seminary professor was quoted in a Spokane newspaper in 1924 tells me that he really did go to seminary, they wouldn't have dared to publish a false claim about that while it was still easy to ascertain that it was false.

Whoa check this out. I faintly recall reading this 10 years ago but never gave it much thought until now. He did spend time up in Michigan.

Speaking of Lake, I really love these couple of quotes by him:

"...tongues have been to me the making of my ministry."

"It's easier to act yourself into believing than believe yourself into acting."

Colonel you probably don't mean Lake was a fraud but the OP title implies that ...IMO it should be changed
There are some discrepancies to Lake's story but there are discrepancies to many of God's well known ministers

We shouldn't deny or cover up if there are obvious failings in a ministers life but we should give grace as some discrepancies may have answers

In my readings of Lake his biggest heartache and mistake was neglect of his family - this was ignorance due to his passion for God.
His wife basically died of exhaustion as he was too busy with ministry to see his wife's needs

I extend a bit more grace to Lake and the early Pentecostal pioneers as it was new to them. Errors were made and we can learn from them.

Sadly 100 years later many ministers are making even worse mistakes even though we have hindsight and better teaching so we have less excuses for the errors made today

The title for the original post contains a question mark. It could mean that I wonder if he was, it could also mean that others claim that he was and I don't have the answers to their objections and this thread is about trying to figure that out. The latter is correct.

Forum participants and lurkers have a tendency to quickly categorize posters according to hunches rather than by definite statements and it could be that someone has decided that I should have worded the title differently unless I agree that Lake was a fraud. This happens a lot on Facebook, people seem to demand to know which side one is on and if it isn't clear to them that one is on "their" side then they will quickly assume that one is on the other side and maybe some kind of activist for that side, even if the topic discussed is much more complex than "for or against".

On this forum I have over 12,000 posts since 2015 and it's easy to figure out from other posts if I'm a Christian, a Charismatic etc.

But if the admins feel that the OP title is too unclear then go ahead change it into something that you feel is clearer in the English language.

The cemetery where he is buried is about 5-10 minuets from my house. The church he had here in the last years was bought and changed into a rental place for banquets and such.

Didnt he start the "healing rooms" there with abandoned crutches, canes, wheelchairs pinned to the walls as trophy's in the Lord?

I don't know where LIndaeverchanging lives, but the healing rooms started in Spokane.
