    Spiritual Warfare

I've been a Christian for a long time now. One thing I've noticed is that over time, certain topics are forefront among believers and then move to the back burner. For a long time back in the 1970s and into the 80s spiritual warfare was one of the hot button items. There were several books on the topic and many Christians were engaging in spiritual warfare.

Is it just me or has spiritual warfare taken a back seat to some other current hot button issues? Note I'm not saying NO ONE is talking about it, I'm just saying it doesn't seem to be a topic that's getting as much traction as it used to. And now is when we need it more than ever.

Prayer has two components. One is, of course, prayer towards God, beseeching Him for our requests (plus adoration, thanksgiving, etc.). But the second component is resistance to the enemy, pulling down his strongholds, based on the Word.

Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

Jesus vocally confronted Satan and so must we if the source of our trouble is from the enemy. But are we doing that? Some are, but I think there's less emphasis on the warfare aspect of prayer than I've seen in years past. But, as I said, maybe it's just me. Perhaps I need to get out more?

BTW, another "lost" or back burner issue is the fear of the Lord. Does the present American church understand and live in an awareness of the fear of the Lord? Fear of the Lord is still the beginning of wisdom.

The arising of the hyper-grace focus has almost entirely washed out the need for walking in the fear of the Lord. This is why this great apostacy now taking place. “Believers” are unrepentant, will snap back at the very mention of forsaking the old sinful lifestyle. We were given this Gift and there is a need to guard it.

This is a very real need in any believer’s life and is not being taught nearly enough today lest one be labelled extreme.

Ex 20:20 “And Moses said to the people, "Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin."

There is a side to "spiritual warfare" that some have backwards.

There are some who want to walk through this town or that town and cry out to God against this and that and rebuke the powers and principalities in the area.
There was a huge move to prayer walk and pray for the folks in the area.

Not saying that we can't do that, but it would be more profitable for the lost if we would walk around telling folks about God instead of telling God about the folks.
He already knows their conditions, bondage and needs. That is why He told us to go preach the gospel, heal the sick and cast out devils.

A lot of folks have realized that it is way easier to talk to God about men than to talk to men about God.

Aren't we doing spiritual warfare when we cast out devils, heal the sick and preach the gospel?
