    Corrective lenses and hearing aids

I've entered that time of life where I can no longer pretend to hear everything. So, a hearing test revealed a hearing loss bad enough to require correction with a hearing aid.

Now, some people who find out at church are now praying for me right on the spot. Nothing wrong with that.

But, now, look, I've worn corrective lenses since 3rd grade and no one ever grabs me and prays for my eyesight.

So I'm puzzling this through - why now, that I've decided to correct my hearing loss am I the target of well-meaning prayers. What if I had not corrected my eyesight with glasses/contacts, and suddenly gotten glasses? Why the double standard???

Also, I've known (and ignored) this hearing problem for at least 10 years. I've never gone up for prayer regarding hearing loss because I haven't had a true measure of how bad it really was.

So, why do we typically pray for hearing and not for eye sight correction?

I hear very well. I just don't understand what is being said like I used to.

I do get what you're saying Muriel. It seems that putting on a pair of glasses goes unnoticed but people have a huge problem with the hearing aid thing. I think the technology now is much better than that big radio thingie you used to have to tuck behind the ear. I see a lot of people nowadays are walking around with things like ear buds and bluetooth devices in their ears so a little hearing aid shouldn't be a big deal. Most people would probably think your just listening to music.

The hearing aid really isn't a big deal. But when I told one of my friends about it, she immediately started praying for my hearing. My response was to be taken aback. I would rather have had my eyesight prayed for - I've worn corrective lenses since 3rd grade. Weird how this goes in the body of Christ. Hearing is easier to pray for than eye problems. If there was improvement in my hearing, it would have to be specifically tested - I only have a specific MHz range where I can't hear. Now, eyesight - a person would know right away if they had been healed in this regard. Glasses off - can I see clearly? No or Yes? Easy peasy.

Another point is that a large portion of the population, of all ages, wear eyeglasses or contacts,
and most can do just about anything they want even with those corrective aids. Therefore,
no one sees any reason to pray for healing of the condition. (I've worn glasses since the 5th grade,
and I've never seen them as more than a minor inconvenience.)

Now, if you were known to be aspiring to be an airline pilot and your need for eyeglasses
was blocking you, then you'd probably be prayed for.

So many people have vision correction devices of some sort, I doubt if anyone thinks about it much. It would be somewhat odd for them to start snatching up folks wearing glasses for prayer.

I've worn glasses since I was 3 or 4 years old. When I was about 11, my eyesight improved quite a bit in my good eye. (I have a lazy eye which has terrible vision.) I consider the improvement a healing.

Like others I have noticed that some Christians expect others to be healed of certain illnesses but they themselves use modern science to either get healing or live with that condition more comfortably.

I had one Christian brother challenge me when I was taking medication for something yet he himself takes medication about his condition but he seemed to think he was ok but I was missing God or something.

We would all love to see 100% supernatural healing every time but it doesn't happen.

Yes we should always pray and believe for healing but not bring carnal judgments unless God has given a word of knowledge why the person was sick.

I remember some of the members of the Christian commune we were in claimed that God filled the cavities in their teeth at a healing service. I never questioned them about it, but it should be easy enough to prove.

I know a minister that this happened many times in his ministry. One lady that I know personally showed and told me about her tooth getting filled.
