I agree, its like if anyone does anything at all for you anymore its almost expected that they be tipped.
I've done the Kroger click list free pick up and it was wonderful to have someone else do the shopping for you. After they had reviewed my purchases and loaded them into my vehicle I thanked the gentleman and handed him a tip. I was surprised when I was told that it was just another service that they offered and that tipping was not allowed. It caught me off guard a bit...but I found it quite refreshing.

After my surgery last year, I had to use the electric cart to shop for a few weeks. On several occasions someone would help me load my groceries into my car, and I would tip. But Sprouts doesn't allow their employees to receive tips. However, some would accept (almost always the young employees) when I offered, but if it was a manager or older employee, they wouldn't, even when I would urge them to take it on the down low.
I think they should allow those young people to receive tips when they assist folks.

I hate hearing that "Living Wage" Phrase but thats another discussion ...
The tipping system is actually better for employees.. foe one thing it incentivizes better service
In the US the tipping economy comes to about a trillion dollars(About the size of mexicos entire gdp) most of it undeclared , hence untaxed, hence not subject to all the inefficiencies that come with taxation.

I think if you knowingly under/non- tip, it may fall into "robbing wages".
I remember posting a question several years ago about "tip jars" and had anyone on the forum put money in them. Catchy proudly said no she didn't Nowadays I'll leave a minimum 20% for good service at a table, but tip jars? Nah.

I have put money in a tip jar a few times but usually it is my policy not to. You are paying already paying for what they do for you. There is also the issue of having to wipe up your own table in a lot of places.
A while back, we were getting our drinks at What a Burger and the drink counter was a disaster area. The counter was covered with lids and straw wrappers and a bunch of spilled soda. There was no place to set my drink down so I could put a lid on it. I threw away all the trash and sopped up the mess with paper napkins. They were pretty busy and the public made the mess. People can be such pigs!
