It might be interesting to do some digging there or to even find other sites nearby.
There are some websites that will show you old aerial photos like this one:
NETRonline: Historic Aerials
Then there are other sites that can lead you to old maps and deeds dating back to sometimes the 1800s:

Plat maps for your county are handy to have. When doing a search for Boyne City I found a city plat of 1901. I checked our property and sure enough it confirmed some questions.
My backyard archaeology while digging a new fire pit. The suspected privy area is next.

When they say 95% of your tones are nails, they ain't kidding. Digging the firepit, this is the finds. Note the number of nails in such a small area.

Started the big dig on the sunken area of the back yard, about 4ft square. Something was buried there a long time ago. If it's the privy I'm happy. Our house sits on the Morgan brick factory of the 1880's. This will be very interesting.

I keep a tally of the clad coins I find and even if I don't metal detect much in a year I usually hit $100 in those altho one year I was real gung-ho in hunting and got about $300 worth, plus you usually find old silver coins too.
Firebrand will in time too. :)

I haven't gone to the popular places yet. Still doing studies and digs on my yard and one possible homestead. Yup, in time.

Sounds interesting. It could be fun if something of value was found from time to time.
