    This is really hard to see. But the problem with turf grass - this is the back of our property - it's turf and there are leaves from the fall still there - and the water is just sitting on top of the grass about 1 inch or so. This is the way it was where my rain garden is now. The plan this year to kill the grass back there and plant native plants, sedges and grasses. However, I also have a huge thistle infestation to deal with as well. I think this project may be a three-year project. But first, the area has to dry out enough to walk on. I may use the choke it out method soon - maybe using newspapers and rocks/bricks a section at a time.

    Over time, the goal is reduce the lawn so it doesn't take me 2 hours to mow.

    I don't rake leaves either.

    I'm a horrible neighbor! But at least I don't live in the executive mansion subdivision behind us.
