I'm not sure how this trial will go. They probably should have just made him pay for the fake investigation and make a "sincere" apology. No matter how it ends up, he's going to look like a victim to some. I don't think the state is going to get their pound of flesh.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
The only thing I can think of here as to why he would go to trial is that he made some deal with an entertainment company. I predict a "The Trial of Jussie" special. Probably Netflix or some other streaming outfit.

You could be right. Make a few million out of the deal.

Yep, even if he's sentenced to community service I can see the camera crew now riding along while he picks up trash. It's really a win for him either way.

There are a couple interesting side stories coming out at the trial.
One involves Don Lemon...
Don Lemon did not mention own role in Jussie Smollett trial
The other is a claim that the judge lunged at one of Smollett's lawyers.

Guilty ..
Jussie Smollett was convicted Thursday of staging a hate crime nearly three years after he claimed two Trump-loving bigots beat him up, tied a noose around his neck and doused him in bleach in a misbegotten bid to raise his public profile.
It took nearly an hour for the actor to return to Chicago courthouse to hear the jury's guilty verdict.
For Smollett, the verdict is the final chapter in the made-for-tv saga that jurors found Smollett not just starred in, but directed from start to finish when he asked two men to "fake beat him up," gave them a script of homophobic and racist slurs to deliver and selected a stage for the phony beatdown that he thought was in direct view of surveillance cameras.
