Speaking of 1979, the scene in the trench on Apocalypse Now captivated me, still a favorite scene. Since then, I've always wanted to have an M-79 blooker. With crates of ammo.

That got replaced by these..
The guy who carried it was called the "grenadier". One grenadier per fire team.

We should have fired up all our Lance missiles in Desert Storm, but they could not be deployed over there because they had nuke capability. Shamefully, I am sure it cost billions to disarm and destroy them instead. They were propelled by two very deadly acids mixing together.
The T.O.W. is still being used today, it has been around since the Vietnam era.
The computer system that was used for testing them was so large that it fit into an enclosure that was transported on a 5-ton Long bed truck, similar to the one in the pic. The computer system shown in the pic is like the one that we used in the classroom, taken out of it's shelter and re-assembled.

So how does that work? It's not hitting them. Timed to explode over it or does the target trigger it somehow?

Yes, best move the Army could make with that weapon on squad level.
