Ohio teen calls cops after father takes away her cell phone

She called police, but didn't get the answer she was hoping for.

Officers in South Euclid, Ohio say they were dispatched to a home there Saturday for a theft report – only to arrive and find a 16-year-old who claimed her father stole her cell phone, something she believed she was entitled to have.

The father told cops he took the device away for disciplinary reasons, and police took his side.

"Officers explained that having a cell phone under the age of 18 is a 'privilege' and not a 'right' as she believes," the South Euclid Police Department said in a Facebook post. "Officers suggested she follow the rules her father set, if she hoped to get the phone returned."

Reminds me of a Nigerian video I watched a while back where a man's daughter was sent to the USA to go to school. When she came back home she was rebellious and disobedient to her father so her father got a belt to beat her.

She called the police. When they came she explained to them that her father hit her with the belt. They asked the father why and he explained how the child has come back from the USA and has just become rebellious. They then took the girl and one of the policemen started spanking the girl. They then reminded her that this is not the USA and that they expect her to listen to and respect her father.

Without the beating part (since, in some cases that can lead to abuse), the police should always take the side of the parents in matters of disciplining (not abusing) their children. If not we will have a society of rebels.

Crazy story here: I got called to the police station one afternoon, it was DCF (dept. of children and families), they said "you have one hour or we'll arrest you", off I go to the police station, into the interrogation room. A DCF rep and two cops start grilling me about a child who had taken a beating and why I didn't report it, they were trying to nail me for not reporting the incident. The incident took place while I was out of town and had been reported to the police dept. (DCF didn't know that), so I told them it was reported, go get the report. Turns out the Haitian cop who responded to the initial report didn't bother to press charges. So, they call in the Haitian cop and he is all "when I was a youth I would get hit with extension cords", blah, blah. So I asked them if they are going to arrest the Haitian cop for not reporting. Everybody goes sheepish, I walk out.

    Crazy world.

As Richard Pryor said in the 70s, "I went to the police station looking for JUSTICE and that's just what I got - JUST US!"

That Dad has bigger problems than whatever prompted him to take the phone.
