    Midterm Election

I've heard a prominent popular preacher say that the upcoming midterm elections will have extreme negative ramifications if the Democrats regain control of Congress.
Although the well known pastor didn't endorse any political candidates by name per se 501c3 IRS rules, he did mention that he urged all Christians to get out and vote.
And it is true as voters head to the polls, they will determine who will control Congress for the next two years if the Russians don't interfere in the midterms.

But in all seriousness, this midterm election occurs halfway through President Trump's first term. The outcome of this election has the potential to dramatically alter the political landscape for the next two years. If you look at a couple of past Presidents, the midterm elections did not have a favorable outcome for their preferred party.

In 1946, Harry S. Truman was President, a Democrat, who's party controlled the House and Senate. The post-war economy was sluggish, inflation was on the rise and the cold war was at new heights. In those midterm elections, voters were disappointed in Truman, and for the first time in years, Republicans would gain control of both chambers of Congress. They gained fifty-six seats in the house and thirteen in the Senate.

In 2006, George W. Bush, a Republican, was President of the United States. Republicans controlled both houses of Congress. However, slow economic growth, the war in Iraq and several political scandals involving Republicans dominated the headlines. That fall, the Democrats gained thirty-one seats in the House and five seats in the Senate. Democrats regained control of both houses of Congress for the first time in over a decade. The reason I post this is because regardless of which way the pendulum may swing this fall, one thing is certain. God is still in control. The outcome of the 2018 midterm elections won't catch Him by surprise. I believe its imperative that we remember our hope does not rest with a Republican or Democrat in Congress or the White House.

As demonstrated throughout history, this is always subject to change. Rather, our hope is in the One who changes not. The One who reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I plan on voting in a few short weeks on November 6th as well I'm sure many of you who are members of this forum will do so. But if we put our hope in man to solve our national problems, that hope I believe, will be short lived and futile. The One Whose death, burial and resurrection makes it possible for more people to be saved is my focus. I pray that God will grant us a little more time for more to be added to the Kingdom until the future coming storm arrives. Perhaps the upcoming midterm election may have a favorable outcome to do just that.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.
