    Joe McIntyre Passed

I don't know how I missed this, but Joe passed away back in December at age 69. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, Joe wrote the book on E. W. Kenyon (E.W. Kenyon and His Message of Faith: The True Story) and ran the Kenyon Gospel Publishing Society as well as pastoring a church in the Seattle area. I spoke with him a couple of times to get some clarifications and exchanged emails with him. After I did my videos plugging his book I emailed him and never got a response. I now understand why. He apparently was in declining health for a couple of months and my email was in that time frame. Condolences to the family.

I have that book in my library, but haven't read it yet. I'll get to it soon.

One of the nicest guys I have ever gotten to know. Pastor Joe and I began exchanging emails in early 2000 and later became a part of a Word-Faith Discussion group (with Dr. Geir Lie, Dr. Dale Simmons, Pastor Derek Vreeland and Dr. Paul King). Pastor Joe and I were probably the only two non-scholars in the group - and the only two committed Word-Faithers. Fun times of which I choose to forget as much of those discussions as possible

The content of those discussions are for another time.

Pastor Joe was never too busy for anyone. On the contrary, I used to think, "Gee, he has a lot of friends and is now rubbing elbows with so many well known preachers that I don't want to bother him too much." Yet, if I went more than a couple of months without emailing or calling him I would get one of the two from him checking up on me (or, as he would put it, "Checking in"). I knew that Pastor Joe had a LOT of friends, yet, like Jesus, Joe could make you feel like you were either his closest friend or his best friend. That was just the way his personality worked. So unsure of how he did it.

I also saw how gracious he could be to his critics. While I could be just as harsh and unrelenting with anti-Word-Faithers as they were with Word-Faith teachers, Joe would once CCed me on some email exchanges that he was having with a Word-Faith critic who disliked his book on Kenyon. The dude was being a jerk and Joe was responding in love.

Last time I spoke with him was some months before he died. He had just had surgery in which he lost his leg. I called him at the hospital and we talked for a long time (I estimate over an hour). He sort of nicely rebuked me about my seldom communications with him (again, my mentality was that he was a busy man, already had lots of people who claimed to be close friends with him and was probably very busy). I vowed to stay in touch with him and wanted him to come and do some ministry/teaching in RI when we could afford to bring him out here. However, aside from some brief exchanges on FB, I did not keep my word (to which I am ashamed). Next thing I remember was his wife posting on his FB account that he had passed away.

Pastor/Apostle Joe was an awesome and humble man. Very loving, very friendly, excellent Bible teacher, and inspired me (and continued to personally encourage me) when I used to be in the WoF apologetics ministry (a mantle I now pass on to my friend, "Jew and Greek" since the Lord has moved me to other endeavors). I miss him dearly.
