That is not all that uncommon in some denominations. Way back when I was in school I had a friend that went to an Episcopal church that used wine in communion. I think a lot of liturgical churches probably do it.

I think it's a bad idea to do any of what has been mentioned in church because it will fail the Romans 14 test whenever an alcoholic or recovering alcoholic shows up. A negligible amount of actual wine for communion maybe, but only if there is a non-alcoholic alternative and they advertize that fact. What people do in private including "in private in public" is a different matter.
