My option was not listed..both the WORD and the SPIRIT...I get a sense of knowing then rely heavily on the Holy Spirit to confirm that sense with both specific passages and the whole of scripture

I never go with just a sense..
I require two or more relative passages
I ask Him to resolve any seeming conflict or contradictions..

When He and I complete that process I OWN that revelation.

This process can come quickly in some things and for others it has taken years...

For myself, I hope it is nearly all based on the scriptures. It may not mean sitting and studying endlessly at the time. Discernment can come quickly if s you have already been steeped in something, through experience, study, and prayer. The same even goes in seeking the counsel of others. I would weigh their advice in what I know of their character and experience with God and in the Word. Sometimes when you simply "know" or recognize something it is because you are very familiar with it already. It may take a little bit to be able to relate how and why you know.

I asked God why He gave us pastors, evangelist, teachers..ect and then said 'You have need that no man teach you..'
That seemed a contradiction along..so if we have the Bible and the Holy Spirit why do we have these? The answer was simple...they challenge us...
The Berean heard Paul and then searched for themselves whether this was true..Paul revealed and challenged them to deeper truth and they they relied directly on the scriptures to determine accuracy..

The Holy Spirit leads us through revelation of the scriptures and to teachers, preachers, ect that challenge us to dig deeper and go further..

This is why we should remain humble and teachable..and respectful to those we don't agree with...no matter how confident we are they just might be drawing us to a deeper or even a corrected place.

So we do need all three..the WORD...the SPIRIT...and each other..

Good answer because as you said, it does seem like a contradiction.
