Most of the campgrounds have hosts, even the more remote rustic places. We found the nicest site that happened to be next to the host couple. They are locals that have childhood memories and ties to the campground...hang with me here.
She is a very sanguine story teller that loves what she is doing, even moreso after her evening drink. She approached our site last night to say I should keep watch for something mysterious to surface. My wife says "a Tomahawk Lake Nessie??". Then she continues, they have had one of them little underwater drone thingies and divers and they just couldn't find it. What, I asked. A missing body...

Tonight we visited the Sinkholes natural area. Sinkholes occur from limestone substrate being washed away through aquifer and eroding the substrata where the ground gives way sinking in on itself leaving huge holes that create gorgeous lakes and when dry will leave a very deep hole with steep edges. Hard to describe even with a picture.
Here is a shot my wife took when we stopped to take in the awesome beauty and out flushes this blue heron:
Here is a sinkhole lake "Shoepac"..

Here we go again. This time we are up in Cheboygan State Park for a few days. The Cheboygan river is full of fish of all kinds and sizes...in particular, MUSKIE
God willing, it's going to be a great trip. My wife has a bit of court work to do, great location for watching the big lakes freighters come by, sunsets on Duncan Bay...etc.

Going on the river tonite. Done the studies, got the tackle prepared, got the tips from a local friend, here we go.
We had stormy weather last night so the lake levels came up like a tidal surge. Pretty interesting dynamics to camp and fish with.
While on the bay this small freighter the Margaret came in to the river mouth and docked. Here is a pic from the street as it sits at the dock:

I am in the process of moving back to the US. We sold our little apartment in Karmi'el and used the money to buy two houses, a travel trailer and a truck to pull the TT. Yup housing is that expensive in Israel. So I took the camper out for a trial run last week and it was wonderful. We went to Branson, MO. One night we went to a show at the "Sight and Sound" theater and on Saturday we went to a Messianic synagog. The synagog wasn't the most comfortable thing I have ever done but the sermon was very good. When I went to thank the speaker he called me by name to my surprise. That's when I found out that he had been on a tour with me. Looking forward to more fun with the camper. Who knows? Maybe Michigan could be a destination some day. I know where you live Firebrand.

I've enjoyed looking at all the pictures and seeing the excursions you have taken in camping.
We camped for many years. Started out with a tent back when we first married. I have never been camping beyond staying in a Holiday Inn prior to marriage. I actually loved it even in the tent. Of course the summers are very hot here so we generally camped near lakes. We upgraded to a "pop up tent" trailer after we had a child then on to a bigger 34' pull behind. Then we parked that big thing at a family owned secluded property about 3 hours drive away from home. We used it real often just for a weekend get away and "vacation" place to stay. We enjoyed camping so much.
My brother has a ranch in Colorado and always wants us to come there on vacation. We have relocated to central Texas, Austin area, in the last few years. I have had the urge to buy another camper for retirement. Gas prices are a little bit of determent.
Our youngest daughter and her family have a camper they like to stay in. They even bring it when they come for just a few days. WE have a camp ground not far from our home and they like staying out there for holidays and such.
Reading thru these posts and seeing pictures sure makes me miss campers and camp grounds. I just might be pricing a small camper soon. We will see.

It's good to hear from another camper. We have camped since we started dating in our teens in the 70's. It's a way of life and exciting travel for us. Our stories are many. We have had every type of camper and RV but have enjoyed the 96 Sunline (assembled by Amish) T-1950 that is easily towed and maneuvered. We love Michigan's Upper Peninsula and need to get back soon.
