    Roseanne

So ......... I didn't set my PVR to record the new Roseanne show, mainly because I thought it would be a Trump bashing fest, making fun of everything and everyone who supports him and conservative values.

Apparently I was dead wrong and I'm going to have to find it online to watch now... Anyone watch it???

Pro-Trump 'Roseanne' Reboot Thanks God for Making America Great Again

Tuesday night's two-episode revival of Roseanne launched with the same emotional flare that made the original Conner family working-class comedy a 90s cult classic, updated for the millennial age and set in the Trump era.

After a 20-year hiatus, the magnanimous matriarch Roseanne Barr is reunited with her on-screen husband Dan (John Goodman) and the pair face new family challenges — Roseanne's unemployed daughter Darlene (Sara Gilbert) has moved in with her two children, Becky, (Alicia Goranson) widowed, struggles to become a surrogate, and Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) clashes with Roseanne over the election of Donald Trump.

One emotional moment manufactures a rare TV siting: a flyover state denizen offering an honest and raw, reason-based rationale for supporting Trump.

"He talked about jobs, Jackie!" Roseanne says to her "Nasty Woman" T-shirt-clad sister, who vocally supported Hillary Clinton but walked into the booth and voted for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. "He said he'd shake things up! I mean, this might come as a complete shock to you, but we almost lost our house, the way things are going."

Moments later, just before the family eats dinner, Roseanne says a prayer — she asks Jackie, "Would you like to take a knee?" — in which she thanks God for her son D.J.'s (Michael Fishman) safe return home from his military service in Syria and "most of all Lord, thank you, for making America great again."

Though the reboot is not steeped in political party politics, Roseanne admits, to the New York Times, that she wanted "to have that dialogue about families torn apart by the election and their political differences of opinion and how we handle it. I thought that this was an important thing to say at this time."

Roseanne, Barr told the Times, is about "How families are still struggling and what they do about it."

"There's an arc in this season, and it's the closest I've been to doing what I want to do," the 65-year-old said. "It's about everything in our country. It's about opioids and health care. How we deal with whole new issues that we didn't even have before, like gender-fluid kids. How working class people — how and why they elected Trump."

"It's an accurate portrayal of these people and people like them," Roseanne said of Trump voters. "In terms of what they think, and how they feel when they are the ones who send their kids over to fight. We've been in wars for a long, long time, which everybody seems to forget — but working class people don't forget it because their kids are in it."

The second episode, "Dress to Impress," follows Darlene's gender fluid son Mark, who enjoys wearing girls clothing.

The episode is dominated by familiar fare: school bullies, the pain of unfulfilled like goals, and a parent's penchant for fixing their children's (or grandchildren's) problems.

The cast (and the couch) is the same as the original award-winning show but the sharp punchlines still land, and family values remain real.

'Roseanne' BLOWS UP In The Ratings. Trump Supporters Cheer. But There's One Really Big Problem For Conservatives.
    By Ben Shapiro
    March 28, 2018
    https://www.dailywire.com/news/28786...er-ben-shapiro

On Tuesday night, Roseanne’s reboot premiered – and it blew up in the ratings. Fully 18.2 million Americans between the ages of 18-49 watched the show. It received a 5.1 rating. It was the best Tuesday night premier for ABC since 2006. Americans tuned in in shocking numbers.

Many conservatives are overjoyed at this
    – they see it as a cultural moment of great import, because Roseanne’s character is a Trump supporter. She shellacks Hillary on the show. Her sister, a purported Hillary supporter, couldn't even bring herself to vote Hillary – she voted for Jill Stein.

Conservatives are celebrating because they believe that Roseanne is helping to cure the culture by depicting a Trump supporter as something other than a rube or an idiot. There’s some truth to this: Roseanne’s character is whip-smart and unwilling to take crap from anyone – she’s sort of a female mini-Trump in terms of personality.

But there’s something else going on in Roseanne that should disturb conservatives: the redefinition of Trump supporters as blue collar leftists rather than conservatives.

Roseanne’s character is pro-gay-marriage, pro-abortion, feminist, and pro-transgenderism – and the implication is that she is a good person because of these views. The real difference between Trump voters and Hillary voters are economic in nature, not cultural.

Television hasn’t featured a respectful depiction of a typical Republican-voting woman in decades. And Roseanne isn’t it. Roseanne could just as easily have been a Bernie supporter as a Trump supporter, because she is a class heroine, not a cultural one – and the Left believes that the only path to unity between right and Left is to cast out the cultural right. That’s what Roseanne does implicitly.

The first two episodes make this absolutely clear. First, Roseanne’s grandson is a cross-dressing seven-year-old – and every character accepts this as no problem in and of itself. ...... There is no mention of the value of gender roles, no mention of guiding children through confusion. In fact, every joke is at the expense of anyone who would think such nefarious thoughts. By the end of the episodes, even John Goodman, the dunderheaded granddad, is marveling at his grandson’s bravery for wearing girls’ clothing to school. (It’s worth noting that the show didn’t have the balls to actually suggest that the kid is transgender – he explicitly disavows this – because even Leftists know that most Americans would ask whether parents should humor children who believe they are members of the opposite sex.)

Meanwhile, Roseanne’s daughter is considering becoming a surrogate. But not just a surrogate – she wants to use her own eggs. Roseanne originally objects, but her daughter informs her that it’s her body and her choice, and Roseanne acknowledges the truth of that statement. This is an abortion argument, not truly a surrogacy one. In the old days, Roseanne would have just featured an abortion storyline, but the writers know that abortion isn’t too hot right now.

    These are supposedly Trump supporters....

.....The vast majority of Trump’s support base was conservative, and objected to Hollywood values being crammed down their throats on issues ranging from same-sex marriage and abortion to feminism and transgenderism.

Trump’s populism sprang directly from culture wars, not from economic issues:
it sprang from anger at intersectional politics, coastal elitism, and disdain for traditional values. According to Roseanne, however, those concerns make you a deplorable. Which means that Roseanne is still preaching Hillary’s message, even if it pretends to hat-tip Trump supporters.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

I was a little disappointed...to me the shows weren't that funny, Roseanne has lost her "edge", not to mention the "gender-fluid" boy.

I would not look for "Roseanne" (the show) to be a bastion of pro-Trumpism. It's still Hollywood and all the narrative that goes along with it. (ETA: although, she DID kinda tell off Jimmy Kimmel on his show last week, I didn't watch it, just heard/read little snippets about it)

I did want to see Johnny Galecki ('David") on the first episodes, maybe he'll appear later. It was alluded that he and Darlene had broken up.

I had seen the previews and had a jest of it so I watched the two episodes on Hulu....it's laugh out loud funny in spots...it is dealing with a family that is a real mixed bag who still love each other....even the super liberal, Roseanne's sister does not bash Trump...she instills the liberal mindset on issues....it may change but for now it is on my watch list....

She has toned down...not so sharp and cutting so yes, in that respect I agree....all in all it had some pretty funny moments....I think the funniest one was when Dan was in the kitchen defending giving a pocket knife to his grandson when the crazy aunt bursts in ...well you know...at that moment Dan just put his head down between his hands.....I truly FELT his 'pain' and burst out laughing....it was so absurd and extreme...

The other really funny one was where the daughter says the aunt promised to try to get along...she throws open the door and the aunt is standing there with a Nasty Woman t shirt and says, hello deplorable....

To be honest I stopped watching Roseanne BECAUSE it was so caustic before...

I'll have to read this again but there is something we need to remember...not all Trump supporters were/are 'true conservatives....not all have the same priorities....some no doubt ignored the abortion issue all together to support him as a financial transformer...we might be surprised how many there were/are like that.

Yes those issues, the grandson and the surrogate are those salty issues...but as a family I see them trying to stay a family regardless...

What is the alternative? Disown them? But going back to the original point I made...this is NOT a Christian conservative family.....it's not even a 'very conservative' as Facebook labeled me...:))) to watch it and enjoy it one has to accept these facts and not have expectations otherwise...In Roseanne's own words...she is a liberal that ultra liberals left behind...
