I came into it in 1985. Got filled with Spirit and speaking in tongues earlier that year at a Bible study at an Air Force base chapel. Later that year I started going to (what is now called) a Word-Faith church. I remember the 80s and perhaps even in the early 90s being a time where we were serious about both the teaching of the Word and the moving of the Spirit. Began to see it waning in the late 90s and especially the 2000s (though we still saw operations of the spiritual gifts, just not the excitement we experienced in the 80s).

I'll leave it to the experts on the reasons why things are not as exciting as they used to be. For me, it possibly may be that I am not as young and ignorant as I used to be. I was still growing and learning during that time which made things more exciting. While I am far from knowing everything, it is hard to get excited when you see the same old thing (from man's perspective) or you don't see the manifestations of God's Spirit as has happened in previous times.

PC also have a well-developed biblical understanding of the spirit-man, where conservative denoms seem to have a very limited understanding or interest of that aspect, and typically center discussion to the mind.

PC have a passion for worship, with David being a common reference point for the model of worship excellence.

This means moving from the shallows to learning to worship as David, in freedom of expression, with exuberance and depth of intimacy.

Or like the sons of Korah :

2 Chron 20:19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.

    Psalm 42
To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah.
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say to me,
    “Where is your God?”
4 When I remember these things,
I pour out my soul within me.
    For I used to go with the multitude;
I went with them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise,
With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.

And as Asaph which also was central to David’s Tabernacle. Then in the same tradition were the sons of Asaph in the restoration of worship in Ezra/Nehemiah’s day.

Many Psalms were recorded by Asaph.
