The auction fundraiser for the Red Cross was a huge success last weekend, and the highest price was paid for the baby which was auctioned off. The bidding started at $10 for the newborn and finally ended with a $125 bid. Young farmer J.P. Mitchell won the final bid and took the baby home. In all, the auction raised more than $1,500 for the Red Cross.

Weld County Superintendent of Schools A.B. Copeland is struggling with school attendance. With so many men gone to fight in the war, it leaves the farmers without the help they need. Required school attendance may have to be relaxed so children can work on the farms.

A Greeley potato buyer has been arrested in Texas for mail theft....



...Jack's Place is the new Greeley Auto Filling and Service Station at 1006 8th Ave. They will have a complete line of auto gasoline, oils and greases. The first 250 auto dealers who fill up at the station will receive a free cup of grease.

The U.S. Army draft quota for northern Weld County is 24 men, it was announced today...



...Arriving in Greeley this week will be several federal tax investigators, who will begin a thorough hunt for tax dodgers in Weld County. Persons guilty of tax evasion ...


...A 20-year-old Alabama boy, who was thrown from a train while it was passing through Greeley, was more interested in a job than his injuries. He suffered cuts to his head and body, but went to a local farmer and secured a job before going to the doctor to receive treatment for his injuries....



....The Schnorrer and Kestler clans of east Greeley, both Germans-from-Russia families, are at it again, throwing cans, old shoes and brickbats at each other across their yards. They have been ordered to appear in Greeley Police Court.
