Daniel 9:27
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:
and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and
the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations
he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and
that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
I held the popular view that this verse is speaking of the future tribulation antichrist for years. As a matter of fact, the majority of the church still agrees as it relates to last days theology that the "he" in the above verse in Daniel 9:27 is none other but the "antichrist" who shall come at the beginning of the Great Tribulation. They arrive at the "he" being the antichrist from the previous verse 9:26 where they say that the "prince" is a reference to the antichrist in the Great Tribulation period. But I believe Dan 9:26 is a prophecy that has already come to pass. "The people of the prince that shall come" was the Roman army of Prince Titus. They came and destroyed the city and the sanctuary in fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy. Jesus also prophesied of this happening in Luke 19:41-44, 21:20-24.
Popular current church eschatology says that the tribulation period is 7 years long. They say that this 7 year period is the 70th week of Daniel's prophecy. The popular end times teaching is that 69 weeks of Daniel's prophecy have been fulfilled and that the future 70th week will be fulfilled in the 7 year tribulation period. According to popular belief amongst the majority of ministers and saints alike, the antichrist will come in peacefully in the beginning of the tribulation confirming a 7 year covenant with Israel. Then it is said by the popular eschatology teachers that in the midst of the week which would be after 3 1/2 years, the antichrist will break this covenant with Israel and cause their sacrifices and oblations to cease in a rebuilt temple.
Am I the only one on this forum who once believed this popular last days theology? Does anyone here still hold to this popular teaching of eschatology?
