Check this out from Wikipedia:
Southern pileated woodpecker (D. p. subsp. pileatus) – the southeastern U.S., except Florida
So much for accuracy.

I'm glad we dont have the Griz around here. Black bears are numerous but so far my bird feeders are safe.

It’s easy to relax and get lost in thoughts with this out front.

I keep a plastic crow decoy on the front yard mostly to fool the metro passerby with great hilarity but tonight it also fooled a juvenile Bald Eagle. It sat on the decoy trying to grip the slippery surface with no success. Funny stuff.

After a very hard winter we wonder how many of our herd survived. Many die from starvation and winter kill. Then there are the many predators such as wolves, cougars, coyotes etc. All the hunters are concerned come spring; how many made it out? Well, tonight on an evening ride I saw this out front on the roadside. The monster buck I hunted for the past 2 years has survived. His track is umistakeable, very distinctive. Check it out:

My decoy sure gets a lot of attention. Earlier today it was hit by a juvenile bald eagle and this evening a young doe was checking it out. Wilderness entertainment.

Got a text from a buddy that took a pic of momma bear and 3 cubs down Robinson Rd near the Maple River. That’s twice in 2 days. We have no shortage of bears.
