    REAL ID-compliant Driver's License

    This is coming to Michigan and is new to me but apparently other states have already implemented it, have any of you gotten it yet? I'm not even sure if I have my Birth Certificate...


    -Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, Michigan residents will need to present a REAL ID-compliant document to fly within the United States and enter certain federal facilities under federal law...

Other documents verifying legal presence are accepted. If your name is different from what’s on your birth certificate, you’ll need to bring in a certified name-change document, such as your marriage license or court order. Multiple documents may be needed if your name has changed more than once...

    What is REAL ID?

    Under the federal REAL ID Act, Michigan residents boarding a domestic flight or entering certain federal facilities, military bases and nuclear power plants must show a REAL ID-compliant document beginning Oct. 1, 2020. The federal standards were drafted in response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks based on recommendations from the 9/11 Commission. The REAL ID law sets document and security protocols for the production of driver’s licenses and ID cards, including the use of features to prevent illegal copying or altering. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is charged with enforcement of REAL ID.     Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington have joined Maine and Utah in passing legislation opposing Real ID.

    So my state, Georgia, is actually trying to pass legislation opposing it.

    Hmm...that might be some old info you found cuz it has Michigan listed which will start implementing it per the OP.

    Last I heard, Okla. was given another extension. I think Jan 2019?.
