    Spindle cell Tumor

My beloved pooch has a spindle cell tumor, this is cancer, the vet got most of it out not all - i love my dog so much - she may have to lose her leg, she is a greyhound - a dog that loves to run - it is her front leg.

Would you have the op and take the leg off - or let her go to sleep ?

We have a lot of retired greyhounds down here. They do fine just laying around. Smart dogs, very smart.

I would let her go....It would be too hard to see her not being able to run

When it comes to cancer in pets, I would let my pet go. I've had to put several dogs down in the years we've been out here on our acreage. Each one of them very special... It's so sad to say goodbye.

It's your dog, and the decision has to be made on the age of the pet, quality of life and the cost of the treatment. For some people, the cost is the greatest hurdle.

God bless you with peace in your decision.

I agree with AJ, there are a lot of variables to think about but I googled the stats and survival rates and the odds are in her favor...plus we can pray and believe that it never returns.

Low grade (slow growing) tumors have a recurrence rate of 25% after surgical excision...High grade tumors (which are rare) have 62% local recurrence...

Back in April I was given the news that my 11 year old cat had kidney disease. That she would begin to lose a lot of weight, and that we needed to put her on dialysis, and put water packs under her skin weekly, or bi-weekly, and that she would probably only be with us only a few more months. My boys said absolutely not to the dialysis, and any other needles they wanted to put in her. They also didn't want to put her to sleep, because we were told she wouldn't suffer until the very end with kidney disease. So...we've taken a wait and see attitude, and we've been loving on her, and enjoying our time with her. It's been right at 6 months...she hasn't lost ANY weight, and she acts just like she always has. Whether we have a week, or years, we'll enjoy every minute we have with her. (enjoy your baby)
