    The Good Doctor

I saw a movie section and a music section but not one for TV...

I started watching the new series The Good Doctor...and was wondering if anyone else is watching it...it is about a young surgeon who is autistic and his struggle to adapt and become accepted...It's interesting in that it tries to let the observer into the mind of the autistic...how they function...

I've been watching but I watch most of the medical shows.

I think it's pretty good and I like the way they're doing flashbacks of his life. I also think it must be difficult to play the part of an autistic.

I watched a movie awhile back about Temple Grandin (played by Claire Danes), who is autistic and because of her gifiting, has created non-stress methods of livestock handling. So same kind of thing. Here's the movie trailer. Temple Grandin is really quite famous now, because of her innovations because of and in spite of her "disabilities."

Back to The Good Doctor... So watching this young man learn new skills that don't come at all naturally is interesting and watching the graphics on how the info "syncs" for him to become a diagnosis is also very interesting... What I don't enjoy is the way other Drs treat him, trying to prove he doesn't belong there, but I guess that's just part of the story line. I like the way the president of the hospital is woven into the history of the boy. I'm wondering if he financed the kid's education, as he was a homeless boy.

Yes, you can tell he is really vested in him....having never dealt with autism I wonder how accurate it is...

Episode 2 revealed interesting facts about how he structures his life to function...fascinating that each step of his morning routine was dictated by an alarm. and the way he has his space set up...

I think as we progress we will see more and more how he became the person he is today...structured, disciplined to a fault but necessary...and then the interesting diagnoses that as one reviewer said was along the line of House....

Of course the storyline has the subplot of the arrogant doctor who wants the president's job...

I don't take to medical shows that much but seeing the unveiling of living successfully with autism is very interesting...

I am going to check out the one you recommended....watched the trailer and see the strong similarities...

It was so funny last night when he told that other doctor arrogant people don't believe they have a need to lie...

I watched the first episode and thought it was pretty good but maybe a bit unrealistic, but really, isn't most of TV? Anyway, I have a nephew with Aspergers and he is absolutely brilliantly gifted in many ways. His parents have worked very hard to get him help with his social deficits and he has adapted very well. I find the whole autistic/savant angle very interesting and wonder about the relationship between the two traits in real life.

In the first episode the issue was raised about having those who overcome pave the road for others to see the potential....
