About the End of the World....

So this guy predicted the end of the world over the weekend....and nothing happened. I get why people want to ridicule him, but a part of me recoils when I see other Christians join in with the mockers of the world. This guy was wrong and we all knew it and should have rebuked him for his foolishness. BUT I don't get how Christians can mock him and make jokes about it, just as the world would mock any of us for believing in the return of Christ. There's a part of the fear of God in me that stays away from mocking brothers and sisters who do stuff like this. I may rebuke them in all seriousness, but I don't think I could mock them as the world does.

You mean when some of us joked that we should've maxed out our credit cards in preparation for the Rapture? If that's mocking, then I'm GUILTY. And, I'm not sorry. When people (yes, even believers) do something so stupid as to put a date on Christ return, especially when they know better, they've opened the door to criticism. Maybe it'll make them think twice before doing it again.

    He just changed the date...

As you may be able to tell, Christian conspiracy theorist David Meade's prediction that the world as we know it would come to an end this past Saturday was incorrect.

Consequently, Meade, whose qualifications include writing books and, get this, writing things on a website, now states October 15 is definitely Doomsday.

"It's the strength of the mocking that leads them to repentance". Nope, I can't find that one in my Bible.

I agree Bookman..2 Peter 3 comes to mind when I read it....

As I believe the Holy Spirit spoke to me personally reminding me that at Jesus' birth signs were fulfilled but most on the earth at that time were oblivious...we may not 'SEE' every detail of the end unfolding in our microscope and some may have misinterpreted the sign....but I know personally that there is MUCH we don't see and know about...thinking internet access equals being 'informed' is not a good idea..

I have mocked in the past but not any longer....I am respectfully prayerful and cautious these days...mocking is not a fruit of the Spirit..

PS in retrospect when I started reading Christianity In Crisis it was the mocking narrative in the first chapter that convinced me I had no interest in reading the rest of it...

2 Thessalonians 2 (notice Paul is not mocking...he teaches)

2*Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2*not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3*Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4*He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
5*Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6*And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.

Secondly mocking the very few who said the rapture would occur dismisses the ones who may be accurately noting certain 'signs' we should give attention to...
