The good thing is that there are very few Christians in the Western world that are going to accept the writings of a modern prophet as more authorative than the Bible and that prophet as a new Christ. People outside the US fall for Mormonism and the book of Mormon but they usually aren't Bible believing Christians to begin with. Mormonism and Eastern Lightning are both very national cults by nature. In addition to that, most Western Christians have a Bible and an internet connection and will figure out things like that eventually based on the sources of the material involved.
I agree on the 'prophet as a new Christ' but there are a LOT falling for a different Jesus....and oftentimes with these cults, as you noted earlier, they bait with the Christian terminology and rarely reveal the heresy until much later..it's a trail of breadcrumbs to Hell...
At some point people will have to choose to embrace something entirely new, it's not just a new rendition of Jesus or an additional book. Even Mormonism doesn't promote a new and different person as Christ returned. People may get infatuated with writings attributed to "almighty God" that they aren't sure about the origin of - even when they have no understanding of the Chinese cultural background for the writings, but there is still that final step to take. To compare to something else, one has to accept Adolf Hitler as fuhrer or at least his memory to become a neo nazi, it's not sufficient to become infatuated with aspects of the ideology without knowing the actual source. Already having developed a strong bond to people who are neo nazis or facing coercion, blackmail etc can be a strong motivator though.
