The USA was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and it was the norm to incorporate God and prayer into official business settings.
There is a painting of the first congressional congress praying. Other paintings showing it was the norm to pray in government. That's one of the reasons our country is in the shape it's in today is because we're trying to keep the true God out of government.
