There are clearly those who believe that, say a young man dies of an overdose, that 'it was God's time for them'.
I still hear this from people who claim to know better...it's some form of 'comfort' but actually it's a lie..
When the lie is propagated those who should be looking at that situation in horror and in some cases even fear wrap themselves in the lie and continue in their own sin...

I think Bill Johnson's line was "God is in charge, but He's not in control" or something along those lines. Meaning He is in charge, but He doesn't' necessarily control everything. And I agree with that.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
James 1:13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, "God is tempting me." God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.

That is a big part of the issue..defining the terms...So many times we see two people arguing on this topic and if you listen closely it's not difficult to realize they are not listening to each other..

Right, many say 'everything happens for a reason' meaning God had His reasons for fill in the blank _________, but scripture says many die from their own foolishness and sin:
Ecclesiastes 7:17Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

"in charge" and "in control" are synonymous.
I don't understand why that's difficut to get.
"in control" does not mean "robot city".. man does EXACTLY what he wants.
God will make it very uncomfortable if s/he isn't where God wants them. (ie: Paul, Moses, etc)

What exactly does it mean to you that God is not in control ? What would the world look like if he hadn't been ?
One could say that God is in control if he does absolutely nothing to affect creation after creating it but could have if he chose to.
